Constant, high-pitch whine

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This unit has a constant, high-pitched whine that never goes away even at full battery power, on or off battery, and only changes pitch slightly (but still audible) when the LCD screen is on. When unplugging the unit, the whine continues for a while, suggesting it's somehow related to the battery. For my use, it was under my desk and still very audible, so all the marketing materials showing it on top of a desk (which would presumably be closer to the user) and considering the overall high rating from many users, it makes me wonder if not all the units exhibit this whine (QC issue?) or if the frequency is not audible to everyone, or both. However, further reading and research shows plenty of other users have had this same issue, unfortunately. I have always, exclusively used APC UPS for the smaller units (900 VA and lower) and have been happy with the brand overall. This is the largest I've purchased, but I had to return it and go with a different brand. Just couldn't take the whining sound in general use, even with other white noise in the room. And didn't want to try a different one of the same model because of reading others' experiences with the whining. If it wasn't for the whining sound, this unit is good. The LCD is bright and the unit seemed to function well for the 48 hours I used it. Socket locations in the back are fine, plenty of cord length, easy access to battery, front panel access for USB connections. CONS: -High-pitch whining sound that never stops PROS: -Bright, functional LCD screen -Number of sockets -Easy battery access, user-replaceable -Front panel access for USB and USB-C -Cord length Despite having good experiences overall with APC and definitely recommending the brand in general, I cannot recommend this particular unit because of that one, very annoying flaw.

Wanted To, but…

Unfortunately, both times the power has gone out since I bought these and ran our entire internet and phone setup through them, the whole internet and phone system went down with all the rest. So after all that all I get is that it beeps loudly and obnoxiously in the dark while you are cursing because, y’know, best laid plans & all that.

worked good while it worked
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.bought this originally in 2019 because we were having occasional brownouts and small blackouts for which it worked great. after having owned 3 units now because of the same error code on all 3 of the units i can no longer recommend them in good conscience. they all worked great until they all hit the same error code, F06, which indicates a problem with the internal relays. i didn't use them in an unintended way in the time that i had them, not even with an abnormally large load on them either. but i've had to use the manufacturer's warranty on the first 2 and i don't think i'll be using it on the third. i'll be looking towards other battery backups in the future which is a shame because i did like the software it provided for my PC to see the information and control the settings for it.

1 out 3 APC UPS units wont turn on

Faulty unit passed Quality Control?

Really annoyed that this unit passed all their QC (it came with a slip proving it) yet was still faulty. Customer support was helpful but how bad does a product have to be to fail within a month? I have my doubts as to whether these things are designed to last.

Not so happy

APC 1500 UPS Back Up Battery failure

Best Buy past return period, their service department was NOT helpful. Called APC support and they WERE very helpful. Sending a replacment battery. Assuming new battery works longer term, I will update the review.

good but shacky at bestbuy

I had another unit from another place and it is still working strong.

UPS produces bad smells during battery operation

While the system ran on backup power (just powering my internet router and mesh device) the unit produced some really bad smells during the ~2 hours it ran (like a burning/metallic/acid smell) that filled up my closed office room. I can't imagine that is normal since I've owned many other UPS and never experienced similar smells during operations. I wouldn't recommend this device, seems like a potential health/fire hazard. I'm replacing it with another brand.

Unit was beeping for days while on vacation!!

Everything plugged in remained powered off. Why would this unit not power itself back up? I lost internet and security cameras this entire time. What am I missing?

Fails after ~3 years

Bad switches spoil a good product

They aren't as good as they used to be. APC must have changed suppliers for their switches as they are all junk now. Every one of the three I've purchased have the same problem. They power up fine on initial use, but if you power the unit down after a few hours, a few days or a few weeks, the units will not power up again. To get the power switch to function you have to unplug the unit, remove the battery and hold down the power switch for about 5-10 seconds, then put the battery back in and reconnect everything and power up. You have to do this EVERY time after powering down. This is ridiculous.

Terrible Odor From Device

I have loyally used APC products for many years, but after only a few months of owning, I began to notice a terrible odor in my office that would come and go, it had an acrid, burning type smell. I've spent a long time checking all my PCs, monitors, etc & suffering from cough/headaches only to recently determine the odor is coming from this device. Terribly disappointed. This has caused me issues for a long time before I find this.

Power button dead

The reason is bc the Sys would run great turn it off at night get up turn it on in the morning power button will not turn unit on at all. Not to mention this last one keeps clicking and their is not even a load on it. Got another APC same unit same identical thing happen power button dead. Soooo got another warranty and they sent me a sinwave unit well power button is working fine but when I do a test the test fails computer seems like it shuts down when Back-UP is on battery. So calling APC back Monday and see what they tell me. I am hoping my 4th unit will be awesome with no issues.

APC BACK UP

Did not last very long

Failed after 2.5 years.

Turned off the unit as it wasn't going to be used for 2 weeks. Turned out to be 8 weeks. It won't turn back on. Should have purchased the extended warranty.

Unit failed after 3 months of light use

Then the battery disengages and it goes back onto line power only to immediately flip back to battery. It does this in a continuous cycle. The unit is only 3 months old.

I would try disconnecting the connected equipment from the unit, disconnecting the power cord, and then disconnect the internal battery. While this is all disconnected hold the power button for around 10 seconds. Reverse the instructions to power the unit back on.
