Upgraded from a 10 year old Denon AVR-X2100 that has been flawless, wanted more power and features. Literally disconnected the old Denon and connected the new one. Same wires, speakers and devices. After playing at normal volume for a few hours new amp tripped on Protection Mode. (Flashing power light). Contacted Denon support who said it was my speaker wires. After telling them it was same exact speakers and wires for 10 years they then asked if it was plugged into a power strip (it was). Told me to plug directly into wall, which I did. Protection mode again after a few hours. Called Denon back, next they said it was overheating, it is on an open shelf. Not overheating. Finally told me to reset to defaults, which I did. Protection mode again. Returned to Best Buy and ordered another. Received, connected, and Protection mode again. Returned 2nd one to Best Buy and ordered Yamaha RX-A4A, its been flawless. My old Denon still works great. I did like Denon user interface better than Yamaha, but its no good if the amp doesnt work.

Hello, we are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with our AVR-X3800H. We do understand how frustrating this may have been to have gone from a great experience with a previous model and to have this experience on a newer one. The flashing power light would indicate that there is an issue with the wiring that needs correction, our customer care team hopefully advised you to double check the wiring and connections to ensure everything was correct. With it happening to both units, the odds that both units were faulty would be very low. However, I am happy to hear that whatever the issue was, it was corrected with the Yamaha AVR. We do hope you grant us another chance in the future to showcase our dedication to our craft and the quality sound our devices can produce. If you ever have any questions, you can always reach back out to us and we would be happy to assist. denon

Receiver is Complicated Computer With Glitches

The receiver is now a computer. You can no longer just hook it up and it works. The settings are a challenge to get right. The interface is frustrating. The automated set up would not work, unless you already had it hooked up and working. (?!?!) The manual (300+ pages) does not make sense at many points. For example….it took me 45 minutes to do the FM/AM presets. It is almost easier to get the the right area and then just play with the remote/interface and learn it as you go. The worst thing was the speaker configuration settings. So complex it took me four hours to get the system to recognize the back surround speakers. The trick is that you must select that you have side surround speakers (even though they do not exist) in order to get the option to have back surround speakers. Also note the sound types on the colored buttons at the bottom of the remote. You might need to set them every time you change inputs. Generally, it could use more power. Plan to spend hours every weekend for a solid month to get this receiver fully up and running.

Good except the Wi-Fi didn’t work despite Denon support efforts. Store experience was awful in attempting to get a replacement. Finally just got a refund and ordered another one from Amazon.
