Quality and Comfortable Earbuds = Great Value

I’m an Android user, specifically rocking a Pixel 7a. I assume most people with iPhones are using AirPods, but either way, my comments are specifically tailored towards Android. I’ll also add that I had the Pixel Buds Series A which I loved, but when one of the ear buds died I upgraded to the Pixel Buds Pro; and while those sound great, I struggle with oddities and fit. The Elite 5 are my new go to, surpassing the Pixel Buds Pro on what matters most (to me) with earbuds, fit and not falling out. IN THE BOX You’ll get the charging case with earbuds in them, a short USB-C cable for charging, and small, medium and large “eargel” covers. Despite being 6’4” I typically find most medium sized eartips work best for me, and the Jabra Elite 5 are no exception. DESIGN In some respects, the earbud and charging case is pretty bland. But let’s be real, most earbuds look the same. Mine are black, although I kind of wish I got the white. The case itself is sleek and light. The lid, like most charging cases, is magnetic and opens up with minimal pressure and has a satisfying click sound when closing it. The case almost seems too light, but it has a relatively small profile that can easily fit in your pocket. In terms of physical size of the earbuds, they seem to be about the same size as most earbuds I’ve seen and used. They’re light and fit snugly in my ears. What Jabra did get rid of, which I’m a fan of, is the touch sensor buttons. The buttons on each ear bud “click” in which I prefer for earbuds. To me, touch buttons on such small devices are finicky. The controls are similar to other earbuds, whereby pushing the button on the right side pauses music/podcasts, 2 pushes advances to the next song and 3 goes back. Holding the button in increases the volume, holding the button in on the left earbud decreases volume. On the left earbud, one click turns on and off the noise canceling and activates hearthrough. If you’ve used earbuds and controlled your music/calls in the past, it will be familiar, if you haven’t, the buttons will become second nature quickly. SOUND QUALITY The Elite 5 touts some big musical chops with multiple audio codecs to deliver high quality sound for its 6 MM speakers. For those non geeks (I’m a geek, but I do get lost on codecs and speaker drivers etc.) I can tell you they sound great. Especially taking into account the active noise cancellation (which I’ll get to in a moment). The noise cancellation really puts the focus on the audio, and coupled with whatever magic they put in these tiny speakers, the bass is tight, and music/podcasts really clear. For the most part, they match my Pixel Buds Pro in terms of sound quality. I won’t debate anyone on the merits because they’re might be differences, but honestly, I can’t tell much difference between the two. They both sound great. That includes all types of audio sources, classical music, rap, rock, podcasts, whatever. I was impressed with the sound. Not to mention the easy adjustment of the EQ settings in the Jabra+ app… FEATURES/SETUP/FIT Before jumping into the Jabra+ app, these earbuds have something called Google Fast Pair. That was not my experience. Don’t get me wrong, I got them paired and once I did they work flawlessly, but I wasn’t able to connect the earbuds to my phone until I downloaded the app. Once I did that, for whatever reason, my phone was able to connect to them (before downloading the app, I kept getting errors). The app luckily didn’t have any firmware updates - which is normal nowadays - and I would think the only reason you would use it is to adjust the EQ settings. There are several presets to choose from or you can manually adjust it. I typically go with bass boost but it’s all personal preference. It’s easy to do within the app. The noise canceling, as I said, is great. I can type away in my office when I’m focusing and get locked in not hearing anything around me (except maybe faint clicking from my mechanical keyboard which doesn’t bother me). When I called the elevator in my office, I couldn’t hear it coming or the door opening. Outside in a crowded area you might hear the slightest bit of noise, but for the most part it does a great job. The hear through function is hit and miss for me. Like my Pixel Buds Pro, the idea is, if it detects your talking it will automatically pause until you’re done talking, preventing you from having to pause your sound manually. When running even, sometimes a heavy breath can activate it. It’s not enough for me to disable it, but it doesn’t work each and every time. But that’s only a small annoyance. The battery life is great. I wore them almost an entire workday and they lasted. They charge quickly in the case, and I was able to use them for the better part of 3 days without having to recharge the case (other than my initial charge). You’re likely to want to pull them out of your ears before the battery dies. Last, and what’s most important to me with earbuds, is fit. Not just fit for sitting around or riding in a plane/train, but exercise. My Pixel Buds Pro tend to come out of my ears when sweating and running. These fit nicely in my ear, and at first, I was concerned it wasn’t a snug enough fit, but I went running and they didn’t budge a bit. Bottomline, they are extremely comfortable. And to that end, they are water resistant. I’m hoping they’ll hold up over time, but I don’t anticipate them getting damaged while sweating during a workout. CONCLUSION These are a solid pair of headphones. Don’t sleep on them. When taking the price into account, along with the comfort level and audio quality, they should be on everyone’s list who’s looking to upgrade their headphones.

Solid All Arounder. Micr Quality Surprised Me

Unfortunately, there was nothing about these guys that blew me away. But I think if you are looking for a solid mid-tier earbuds these are a solid pick. As the saying goes, these are a jack of all trades, but master of none. With the exception of maybe the microphone quality. BUILD QUALITY/COMFORT: Is solid. Earbuds are rather small. But other Jabra’s are smaller. The case is rather large. But is skinny. Making it easy to fit in a pocket. The earbuds themselves are comfortable. Comes with small, medium, large gel tips. Which are very soft. IP55 rating. Earbuds fit in magnetically. Won’t come out easily even with the lid open. But are easy to grab when you do open the case. Along with easy to put away. Opening/closing the latch is satisfying. It also, is magnetic. Overall, no complaints here. Solid across the board. ANC/HEARTHROUGH: I would say is slightly about average. They says they have Hybrid ANC. Which I took to be like Apple’s Adaptive ANC. Which I don’t think it is, or if it is, is not nearly at the same level. Same with the transparency mode. Which I thought did an above average job as well. Where I can easily hear what others are saying. But my own voice comes out like I have earbuds in. Found they reduced the noise but I still could usually hear what was going on around me. SOUND QUALITY: Again, I felt these did a solid job in this category. Music sounded good. It is treble focused, with alright mids, and bass is a bit anemic but present. To the point they do sound fatiguing. They do offer EQ, but I found adjusting the EQ to not do a whole lot to the overall sound. I was able to differentiate the different aspects of songs (such as singers and instruments) but found myself zoning out more than enjoying the music which then made me mostly just hear the main lead singer and musical notes. Voices for audiobooks and videos sounded great. I noticed a very slight amount of latency if I was being very picky and looking for it. But otherwise wouldn’t. And tend to be quite sensitive to that anyways. MICROPHONE QUALITY: This I was impressed with and would say is the best feature. My voice came through very clear. With good timbre and bass. Where I’d be happy to listen to someone talking on this. However, it does better in a quiet environment. If you are in a loud environment all of that still comes through. But it does a good job at quickly reducing that sound, to keep your voice front and center. But you can still hear everything else going on but it isn’t overbearing as the speaker is still easily heard. Of the plethora of wireless earbuds I’ve tried. Including the Apple Airpods Pro 2 these were a good deal better. Where I would actually recommend them for phone call use. But again, if you have a lot of background that still comes through and is not silent. CONTROLS: I think are solid. Right earbud is play/pause with single tap, skip song with double tap, go back with triple tap. Left earbud single tap is ANC/hearthrough, double tap is voice assistant. Single press either during a call to answer, or double press to reject. Last, during a call single press mutes/unmutes and double press ends the call. When you remove an earbud the music or whatever it is your listening to is supposed to pause and then resume when you put it back in your ear. I found this worked like 50% of the time for me. BATTERY LIFE: Seems solid. I’ve only had them for about a week. And the case is down to 30% charge. That’s with wearing them to and from work along with during 60 – 120 minute workouts. So a lot of use. They quick charge an hour of playback in 10 minutes. Which I used when I first got them and felt like that was a bit modest of them and I got more playback from them. Also, easy to charge. Supports Qi along with USB-C. Light on the front will say red for low charge, yellow for moderate, and green for full. Earbuds themselves last a long time. Could probably wear them for about 5 – 6 hours before they would die. Depending on ANC, hearthrough, and volume. OTHER: They connect quickly to my devices. Also, can be connected to two devices at a time. CONCLUSION: Overall, these are a solid pair of wireless earbuds. I don’t have any real complaints. But don’t have any real kudos either. Outside of the microphone quality. Jabra continues to impress me with just solid all-around earbuds for a good price. But aren’t busting down doors making them a must have.

No bulk and fit nicely in ear. The buttons are manual buttons and not touch activated - this allows for better control and no accidental bumps. Use mostly while watching TV in the evening - sound depth is great!

    Jabra Elite 5 - Amazing!!!!

So I just received my Jabra Elite 5 earbuds and have been putting them through the paces. Jabra has long been an amazing company with bluetooth products that I have loved over the years. I can remember way back in the day when I purchased my very first bluetooth Jabra headset over 18 years ago. From that point on, Jabra has always been one of my favorite companies for bluetooth headsets. Enter the Elite 5, having not used the Jabra brand in a few years, I quickly jumped at the opportunity to acquire the new Jabra Elite 5 earbuds, and I'm glad I did. They came nicely packaged with the following: * Jabra Elite 5 earbuds * Large and small eartips (Med. preinstalled) * USB-C Charging Cable * User Documentation Following along with the app, you can easily be up and running in no time as they are easily paired through the Jabra Sound+ app from the App Store for iOS devices or the Google Play Store for Android. Once paired through the app, that's pretty much it. The earbuds are also compatible with Alexa and/or Ok Google. My Alexa app opened during the setup process and prompted me to connect them as well through Alexa. Sound quality is amazing. For music and calls, its was pure clarity. There was no hissing noise in the background that I've noticed in other bluetooth earbud headsets. Initially I found the fit to be a little sore on my ears, not sure if my ears were just being weird. I swapped out the medium for the smaller eartips and it was a little better, but the larger eartips fit inside my ear better and also sealed off any outside background noise. Once I found the right sized eartips, everything else was gravy!!! Some of my favorite features of these earbuds are: * The earbuds are able to be used independent of one another. * Hybrid ANC, to either allow some background noise through or to block it out altogether. * Wireless Charging, which is great for overnight charging. * Fast Charge, charges very quickly with USB-C. * Microsoft Swift Pair for Windows 10 or higher (pairing for your PC or mobile device). * Voice Assistants, as stated above for Alexa, Ok Google, and Siri. * The ability to change your controls to your liking in the Jabra Sound+ app. All in all, I absolutely love these new Jabra Elite 5 earbuds, and they will be my go to set especially for workouts. They stayed in place the whole time without moving or feeling like they were about to fall out. Get you a pair, you won't regret it.

Out of the box these earbuds are very stylish looking, they come with 3 different sized ear plugs (gels) (Large, Medium, Small), as well as a charging case and usb cable. In the manual it says you can also buy a wireless charging pad for them as well, which i will most likely be picking up at some point in the future. Pros The phone app to setup everything is pretty nice, and offers quite a bit of features. The Hybrid ANC (active Noise Cancellation) technology is actually pretty good, while activated i could barely hear anything outside of what i was listening to (its not 100% silent, but during somethings I would listen to, it was a close 98% noise cancellation). The buds have the ability to connect/sync with Google Asistant or Amazons' Alexa which is pretty convenient, especially with my ecosystem currently in the home. Spotify tap is a nice feature as well (allowing for a custom EQ, and song control [resume, play recommended song]) The unit boasts; up to 7 hours of battery life + 28 hours with the case, as well as 1 hour of playback per 10 minutes of charge, which is nice if i just want to grab and go. Includes a 2 year warranty The Audio quality is also very good, the bass in some songs was hitting like it should and everything sounded very nice. Cons The only thing i disliked about these earbuds, When you pull out the right earbud while listening to music, it causes the music to stop/pause. (i believe there is a metal sensor in the earbuds that can detect if they are in or not) when the music stopped I thought i could just tap the left ear bud to get the music going again as i would with the right earbud, but thats not how the buttons are setup (instead i had to press play again on my phone), The right earbud is the "only" controller for music, So keep that in mind if you remove one of the earbuds while listening to music take out the left one... Overall these earbuds are very nice, the sound is good, and feels immersive... I also really like the ANC features with the ability to turn it on and off at the press of a button. The fit and overall comfort of these buds feel pretty good as well. I would definitely recommend these buds to anyone looking to try something different.

The Jabra Elite 5s are a decent mid-level set of earbuds with good fit and sound but middling ANC performance. The buds come in the usual type of rechargeable wireless earbud case, with a USB-C port for charging as well as support for wireless charging on a Qi-compatible charging pad. I have not had them long enough to evaluate how long they hold a charge, but it looks like the charging case holds enough charge to recharge the buds 4-5 times when they are inserted. The Elite 5s have quite a different shape from my older Elite 75t earbuds and fit in my ear even better than the earlier models. They are very comfortable to wear and seem secure from the chance of falling out in normal usage. I also have a set of Google Buds Pro that always feel like I could lose one at any time; these definitely do not have that problem. I tend to use my wireless earbuds mostly to listen to podcasts when going for walks or working out at the gym, with just occasional use to play music. For this they work very well. I am also glad that Jabra continues to use tactile buttons for controlling them that “click” when pressed. Some new products use tough-sensitive controls, which are very annoying since doing something like trying to adjust the position of a bud always ends up setting off a control function that I’m not looking for. Kudos to Jabra for sticking with real buttons! The functions of the buttons is the same as I’ve had on other Jabra products and the available smartphone app lets to customize the controls to some extent. Performance on phone calls was good and the callers didn’t seem to notice that I was answering them using earbuds, indicating good noise reduction on my end. The disappointment with this product is that I didn’t find the ANC to be very effective – more like “noise reduction” than “cancellation”, and I don’t think that it’s any better than the older Elite 75t product. To be fair, I might have been comparing it to the more expensive Google Buds Pro that are like a “cone of silence” by comparison, or maybe it just wasn’t working for me. Switching to hear-through definitely increased the noise level as expected, but ANC only dimmed it a bit.
