Solid Build, Good Sound, But Not Worth the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high expectations for these Klipsch Atmos speakers, especially at their $600 (+tax) price point. While they are well-built and deliver good performance, I ultimately found them underwhelming for the cost. I tested them in a 5.2.2 setup by placing them atop my Klipsch Reference Premiere 8000f II floor-standing speakers, using them as upfiring Atmos speakers. I ran various Dolby Atmos soundtracks through Netflix and physical media (Blu-ray) to evaluate their impact. I also mounted them as front height speakers, angling them down toward the listening position. The verdict? They work. They sound good. But they’re nothing special. There’s no real wow factor, which got me wondering how they’d stack up against much cheaper Klipsch bookshelf speakers I had on hand. To compare, I tested them side by side with my Klipsch R-41M bookshelf speakers ($200/pair) and found no noticeable difference in sound quality. The only real advantage the Atmos speakers have is their angled/upfiring design, which allows for placement flexibility. Even when I swapped in my Klipsch R-14M speakers ($125/pair), I struggled to hear any meaningful difference. So, do these Atmos speakers function as advertised? Yes. Do they sound bad? Not at all. But considering their price, they simply don’t offer enough of an upgrade over significantly cheaper options. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly alternative, a well-placed set of Klipsch bookshelf speakers might be just as effective—at less than half the cost.
