Good color/brightness, smooth motion
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG 34WR55QK is my first non-gaming ultrawide curved monitor. This monitor is surprisingly lightweight for its size and comes with a sizable 140W power brick, HDMI cable, USB-C to USB-C cable, cable management clip, and a 2-piece height adjustable stand with a thin but sturdy crescent-shaped base; the monitor can be tilted up 20° or down 5° degrees and is also VESA 100 compatible. Assembling the monitor to the stand was quick and straightforward, and it has 2 x HDMI 2.0 inputs, 1 DisplayPort 1.4 input, and 3.5mm AUX output. There’s also a USB-C uplink port that supports DP Alt Mode for connecting a mobile phone or laptop to use the monitor as an external display. The cord guide slips onto the center column and can slide with the screen as the height is adjusted. When receiving signals from multiple inputs, you can have the monitor auto-switch or display both inputs side-by-side using the PBP option in the OSD menu. The USB-C port also has 65W Power Delivery charging and acts as a hub for the two USB-A 3.0 ports; just note that the two USB-A ports do not output power if the USB-C cable is not connected to an uplink device. Under the chin of the monitor below the LG logo is the 5-way joystick for navigating the OSD menu, and clicking it powers the monitor on as well as brings up the settings. The button is easy to use and has an LED power light in it that can be toggled off. This VA panel has a 3440x1440 (WQHD) max display resolution, 21:9 aspect ratio, and 1800R curvature. I did have to fiddle with the settings to get my laptop output to fill the screen (connected via HDMI with display resolution set to 3440x1440 and OSD Aspect Ratio "Full Wide"). Since the monitor is curved, it cannot be rotated to portrait orientation, and it is best viewed dead center from a distance of about 2 feet. There is a little bit of a color shift at off angles, but the curvature lets you see to the edges of the screen with your peripheral vision without noticeable distortion. The ultrawide format gives you extra screen real estate for having multiple windows open at the same time and is great for productivity and creative applications like photo editing and digital art. I found it quite useful for video editing, too, as I could see more of the timeline all at once. The display outputs 300 nits which is not the brightest monitor I’ve used, but it supports HDR10 and is still plenty bright without being harsh on my eyes. Colors look well-saturated, accurate, and lively, however, even in HDR picture mode, colors aren’t as vivid as on the OLED panel of my laptop, since the contrast ratio is 3000:1 versus essentially unlimited. If you’re having trouble distinguishing objects in dark scenes, increasing Dark Stabilizer in the OSD may help. It also has 8-bit color that covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut (though not the wider DCI-P3). One feature I found interesting is the “Color Weakness” picture mode which is designed to assist those with red/green color blindness. There’s also a “Reader” mode that lowers contrast and blue light and desaturates the screen for easier reading of text with less eye strain. The “HDR Effect” picture mode produces the brightest and boldest colors, though they can sometimes feel unnaturally intense. Although the max refresh rate of 100 Hz is less than that of gaming monitors (typically 120 - 240Hz), motion on it still looks fairly smooth when scrolling through text and moving windows. That plus its 5 ms GTG response time still makes it a usable screen for casual gaming. As for watching movies in fullscreen at 21:9 ratio, your mileage may vary whether or not you’ll see black bars on the left and right sides of the screen, if you’re using a streaming service that doesn’t natively support this format. Remember that this monitor doesn’t have built-in speakers, so you’ll need to plug in external speakers to the AUX port or use headphones. Overall, this monitor is a very nice ultrawide monitor that will work great for most non-gaming uses including digital art and content creation. Text is crisp and clear, visuals are smooth, and color and contrast look great whether streaming video, gaming, or simply browsing the web.

Great introduction to curved ultrawide monitors.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hesitant at first if I would like this Curved UltraWide WQHD monitor by LG, since it was only 100Hz. The curved screen was what appealed to me the most and wanted to see how it would work as my daily home office needs. Yes, I was thoroughly impressed with this monitor and what an introduction to the curved monitor world. I was very impressed at how narrow, wide, and how light this monitor is. You can have it attached to the base stand, or have it wall mounted. I chose to have it on the base stand as my wall would not be good for wall mounting. Set up was very easy and once turned on, I was met with a blissful amount of curved screen in HDR that was pleasing to my visual senses. Watching online videos, searching the web, and even doing some light gaming was such a great and fun experience. The ultrawide screen does immerse you into what you are watching. The 3440x1440 resolution monitor is great and offers so much more horizontal space and viewing. Splitting tabs was nice where I no longer needed a second monitor. This really enhanced my productivity when doing projects at home. Even at 100Hz, gaming was great with no dropped frames or issues with pixel clarity. Regarding IO, you have 2 HDMI, Digital Cable, and a USB-C. I connected my USB-C to my Tablet and was able to display my screen on here. Screen quality was clear and a pleasure to view. Overall, what a great screen to have for both productivity uses, video watching, and light gaming. I love the curved screen and high quality. Definitely whets the appetite for this type of screen for my other computers.

A Good Ultra Wide With A Lot Of Input Options
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.LG released another good monitor in their lineup. The 34" Curved UltraWide monitor. The first thing I noticed about it when taking it out of the box was that LG went with connection ports that face straight out of the back of the monitor. So many monitors these days have ports towards the bottom of the monitor that face straight down. I prefer monitors with ports that face straight out of the back as they are much easier to get to and see when trying to plug something into them. The monitor isn't as heavy as I expected. It's easy to move and place where I wanted it. Also the thickness of the monitor's display is less than some other curved monitors that I have. The stand was easy to attach. The vertical part of the stand is a few inches in diameter which gives it a clean look. The base is curved and wide enough that I can set my laptop a few inches inside of the curved part of the base. I'm able to do that with my 15" windows laptop and my MacBook Pro. Connections There are quite a few connections on the back. There are two HDMI, One DP, One USB-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, power adapter port, and two USB-A ports. I connected the USB-C port to my MacBook without any problems. Mac OS recognized the monitor and it's supported resolutions. Setup on the Mac was straight forward. It was the same on Windows through the HDMI port. I needed the extra USB-A ports for my Mac which is why I went the route of using the USB-C port for the Mac. Performance The monitor runs at up to 100Hz which works well with games and is more than enough for desktop application use. I have been using the monitor 8-12 hours a day and, so far, haven't noticed any excessive heat. There hasn't been any flickering and there were no dead pixels. I did have to change the monitor's built-in color profile for the mac. That was easy to do as this is a dedicated monitor and not a monitor/TV (smart monitor) as some new monitors are. The menu system is simple to use and there is a button underneath the center of the bottom of the display that I used to bring up the menu and also traverse through and set the options. The colors are good especially with HDR10 content. Final Thoughts This is a good 21:9 aspect ratio curved monitor. The support of HDR10, Display Port, HDMI, USB-C 65W PD port, and 100Hz refresh rate are all good options added in by LG. I would like to see this in a glossy display version, but even with it being a matte display, it still looks good. For this price point and input options I think you get a lot. I'm happy with it and I'm glad to see this monitor option from LG.

Great monitor
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Monitor looks great. I bought a USB-C cable but didnt realize mine came with one. Works great on my work MacBook Pro Intel and my personal MacBook Air M1. Can get two full apps side by side for great productivity. Only con is using this with my Xbox since it does not support the wide screen but the monitor has a setting to set the monitor to a normal 16x9 ration and then it looks fine.

Pretty great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought for my non-techy friend and it has been great for typical officework tasks/ spreadsheet viewing. Easy to set up and configure to his macbook. His only negative comments were that the monitor is a tiny bit delayed and he wishes it was higher resolution, but he is very picky.

So great for video work!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a video producer, I’ve been looking for a better alternative to using two (and sometimes three…) monitors. They’re not just more difficult to look at, but the extra cables and plugs make a mess of my desktop. This wonderfully large and curved monitor solves so many problems for me. I can open multiple windows while I’m working and keep track of everything on one desktop. The color rendition is excellent and the 3000:1 contrast ratio meets all my needs. The anti-glare screen lets me work for extended time without eye fatigue. The monitor also lets me use two different sources, such as when I need to gather content from both my laptop and my desktop systems. This is such a time saver. In addition, the monitor has two USB-A and one USB-C connections that allow me to charge my laptop and connect other peripherals while I’m working. The monitor has a sturdy stand and is easily adjustable with height and tilt controls. Overall, I’m looking forward to faster and easier editing sessions and when I get some free time, this will be an awesome gaming monitor.
