Not reliable, poor customer service from BB and LG

To this point I have been satisfied with LG products, this however I am not. I bought this and used it for a couple months with wash and dry cycles ranging from 2hrs 10 minutes to well over 3 hours and after a couple months the unit wouldn’t release the top lint trap so Geek squad came out with a Milwaukee Screwgun and a 3/8 drill bit. I asked what that was for and then explained the issue and he said he didn’t know anything about these and had a new unit sent out, fast forward another few months and I notice the wash/dry cycle at times taking 5 hours, then comes the error reading so I call Best Buy and they tell me that because I used the warranty already I need to speak to LG. LG tech support is nearly impossible to understand and don’t really listen to what you are telling them, I have a new filter coming since LG is aware of “a design flaw with the filter”. I am now waiting for the new filter so I can replace it and when I asked them what happens if the problem persists I was told “we have a record of the issue” so I clarified by asking “if the filter doesn’t resolve the issue are you going to send out a tech or a new machine” and the answer was “we have a record of the issue”

Hello there, GeorgeS. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your inquiry regarding the wash and dry cycles and filter issue on your LG washer-dryer combo WM6998HBA.

For improved drying performance, please ensure the drain hose descends smoothly without forming a U-trap, lying flat on the floor, and that the faucet supplying water is open. Also, avoid overloading by filling laundry only up to the indicated line inside the washer and unfolding thick items to promote efficient drying. Correct water hose connections are important too, with cold water connected properly for optimal condensation.

I thoroughly researched combo washer/dryers before buying this unit, and knew that it was a bit of a bleeding edge product. My expectation was that I'd keep it for maybe 3 years then see if it was worth buying an upgraded model. I stopped using it after 6 months, and today I had it hauled away as trash. Our primary complaint with the unit itself was that permanent press would always come out heavily wrinkled. We knew drying would take longer. We knew that towels might not come out completely dry. But having your clothes come out wrinkled was a real problem. But that alone wasn't enough for us to write it off. In addition to the wrinkled clothes, maintenance on this unit is a REAL PAIN. If you have a standard washer & dryer set, you're used to running a cleaning cycle on the washer and cleaning the lint filter on the dryer. That's true of this unit also. But you also have to regularly drain water and check a second filter at the very bottom of the washer. And about once every 1-2 weeks, you have to go through a difficult cleaning process of the filter compartment that's on top of the washer. To do this, you have to remove 6 screws, a plastic flange and two plastic screens. You have one typical dryer vent that you have to clean out with a brush — that's fairly easy. But then you have to take a nylon brush (not provided and hard to find online) and clean the condenser fins — I grabbed a picture of this from the manual and am attaching it. I think I have average-to-large hands, and it was very difficult to get the brush into every nook and cranny where you could definitely see lint build-up. If you don't keep this cleaned out regularly... well, I don't know what happens but I'm guessing it's not good. The permanent press issue was very annoying because I don't particularly care for ironing my shirts. But this routine and difficult maintenance was the dealbreaker. LG needs to redesign access to this compartment — it needs to have a wider opening so it's easier to access the condenser area, and you need to be able to do it without a screwdriver. It's ridiculous that routine cleaning of a lint filter involves screws! I really wanted to like this product. I have an LG washer/dryer set in the basement that I'm quite happy with, but I was getting tired of hauling all the laundry down-and-up two flights of stairs. The prospect of being able to add laundry upstairs and only having to get water lines installed made this a very tempting product. But it just has some issues that need to be resolved before it can be considered reasonable to use. One other comment: I bought this with the optional pedestal storage unit. Unless you are a very tall person, don't do it. If you think cleaning out that filter on top of the unit is a pain, try doing it if you're under 6 feet tall. It's awkward. So, counting the unit and the pedestal storage, I basically spent about $2K for something I used for 6 months and then threw away. I've now had a 240V outlet run upstairs and today my plumber installed a dryer vent so that I can have a conventional washer/dryer set installed. I had the plumber haul it away — I told him he was free to keep it or give it away to someone who could use it but I didn't want to sell it because I couldn't do so in good conscience. I wouldn't sell something that I don't recommend, and I do not recommend this product.

Hey Chenjesu, thanks a bunch for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review. It’s clear you approached this purchase with care and high hopes, and we really appreciate your insights into both the product’s performance and the maintenance experience.

Your feedback about the wrinkling on permanent press cycles and the complexity of routine cleaning—especially the condenser access—gives us some valuable perspective. We totally get how important ease of use and accessibility are, especially when you’re fitting appliances into your daily life. I'm not much for leaving reviews, so when I do leave them they are either glowing, to let you know that you should most certainly have this item in your home, or a warning to hopefully prevent you from making the same mistake we did. This is the latter - don't buy this. I have the machine 2 stars, one for the pleasing aesthetic - it does look nice. It also stores soap and fabric softener in the machine, so it'll only need to be filled up every month or so. The other star is for the app - connecting to the app makes is so easy to restart a load and the alert the second the cycle is done is very helpful (the follow up reminder 10 mins later is kind of a pain, however). This is where the positive part ends and the reasons to avoid purchasing this very expensive machine come in. If you buy this unit, be prepared to perform more maintenance on a washer than you'll have ever done in your entire life. Unless you're a professional working on washing machines, this will be a tremendous pain to deal with. EVERY SINGLE LOAD the machine needs to be completely cleared of lint and debris. Any missed will end up in a secondary filter we found out about when we had a tch come out the 3rd week after the unit was delivered because every load was taking 3 - 6(!) hours to dry. What we found out from the LG Tech is that if the unit is not drying properly, we have to unscrew a screw at the top and manually clean the drying unit at the top. I forgot to do this part this week and today after drying SHEETS ONLY for 5 hours and still having them wet (not damp) and then remembered to perform this fun extra step your sales rep won't know to tell you about (they probably could not find the screw needed to open to find this part, it's hidden well). We were excited for the AI built into this until. Let the unit detect and manage the load. Big deal. It is nothing more than an auto cycle on a dishwasher. We also thought it would be amazing to set a wash/dry cycle and leave, coming home to a finished laundry cycle and nice dry clothes, ready to put away. Nope. You can't get a fabric softener sheet in the machine on this cycle and it REQUIRES a sheet of the lint gets out of hand in record time. So if you use the AI cycle, you'll have to be home to stop it at some point and add a dryer sheet. Or, just do what we do, and add the sheet when you have to run the Dry only cycle because the clothes are practically (85% of the time) not dry on one load. The machine took a good 25 washes to get the "new washer smell" out of all our clothes. We use the little softener balls in the wash cycle, didn't help. So for the first month, every load came out smelling fairly UNclean. I called and spoke to LG about this and was told this is fairly standard for this unit. I had a stackable unit from LG before this all-in-one unit. It was fantastic, 5 stars. I deeply regret wasting all the money on this thing and would go back in time to talk myself out of purchasing this if I could. I don't like all the time I spend trying to keep the machine 100% clean and lint free in order for our clothes to dry in 2+ hours. (By the way, even a normal wash/dry of sheets, the dry cycle won't have sheets dry in less than 2.5 hours. Do yourself a favor and wait til they get the technology right. It's not there on this one just yet.

Hello there, GarethA. Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your LG WM6998HVA all-in-one washer/dryer. We understand your concerns regarding the maintenance and drying performance of the unit. We want to ensure you're getting the best experience with your machine, so we suggest the following steps:

Be sure to clean the lint and debris after each load to prevent buildup in the secondary filter.
If you’re still experiencing drying issues, it may help to check that the drying unit at the top is clean by unscrewing and inspecting it, as this is a key step in keeping the dryer functioning properly.

No frills review: it washes fine, but even with a tiny load it will take multiple drying cycles to dry your clothes. If you have pets, like other reviewers have suggested do not get this machine as you will have to clean the outer rubber ring every single use otherwise hair will accumulate, clog the filter and break the seal causing the machine to leak a bit until you clean it. I am maticulas cleaning this machine and also making sure i clean rhe tub per recommendstions but none of it matters. Also if your clothes are damp and air dry they sometimes have a terrible smell. You will also have to bend down after every use to drain the machine. Im sorry but i should have went with GE or Samsung. To pay 2k foe a machine that works so so is an embarrassment and rhis is coming from a man who has LG Mini Splits and an LG oled TV.

We actually bought two of these units to replace our existing washer and dryer. Figure, why not run two loads at once and not have to change from washer to dryer in between?! Worked great for the first couple of months. Now starting to have significant issues getting loads to dry appropriately. I've called in to LG customer support multiple times and every time I get a lecture about how these units are different, etc. I've cleaned every filter I can. I've cleaned the condenser. They refuse to send out a technician to look at the units because they don't want someone to come out and have it not be an issue that is their responsibility and now they have to charge me for the service call. I'd give the product itself 4 out of 5 stars. Customer service 1 star

Whoever thought of making a washer dryer combo had a good idea in the concept but all horrible follow through! The washer works OK and cleans clothes in a timely manner. The dryer on the other hand is the worst thing in the world! I can start a load of laundry at 9 AM And over 75% of the time it is still not dry at 9 PM! The condensation, or however, it dries would leave a massive puddle underneath and beside the unit! It would not remove any lint, and all the filters would be free of debris except a little bit of hair. The first five loads was great and after that kept trying everything possible with the instructions thinking maybe missed a filter clean out with no success. Have not had the unit even a year and Best Buy would not do anything about it just sent me to the manufacturer and after paying 4000 for this unit could not afford the manufacture to come out and look at it! I have had many LG products and have been satisfied with their functionality, but this one is the biggest lemon ever. End up having to buy a separate dryer and use this unit for washing only.

Hello there, Kittykat. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand your situation with the WM6998HBA Washer/Dryer Combo and appreciate you taking the time to provide detailed feedback. We recognize that while the washer is performing well, the dryer function is not meeting your expectations, and we’d like to help explore ways to improve its performance.

One troubleshooting step we recommend is to ensure that both the hot and cold water taps are fully opened. Since LG Combo units rely on a water supply during the dry cycle, verifying that the water hoses are connected correctly—with cold water properly directed to the dryer function—can help enhance the condensation process. In addition, please check the inlet filters and the drain pump (as outlined in your Owner’s Manual) to make sure there isn’t any restriction that might be affecting the drying performance. Running a spin cycle prior to initiating the dry process might also help by reducing excess moisture in the load.

I had high hopes for this machine. A washer dryer combo like this makes you feel like you’re living in the future. But once the honeymoon phase wore off I started to witness many issues. Lint accumulation in the door seal was horrible. Then it wasn’t drying well I noticed what was causing it. The lint trap on top of the machine wasn’t catching all the lint and then it was accumulating on a heat sink to the right of the trap. It’s not easily accessible so I had to get my air compressor out and get in there with an air nozzle to blow the lint off the heat sink. Once I did that the clothes started drying again. But it happens after about 10 loads and I’ll have to do that process again. Sometimes it was stuck in dryer mode. With 8 mins left of the clock it would continue to dry until you stopped it. One time it was drying my clothes all night until I stopped it in the morning. It has cool features but it’s just not up to par. It’s way too finicky. I mean all we’re asking of it is to wash and dry the clothes. This is a situation where they put way too much tech into something that doesn’t need to be complicated and they ruined it. I’ve had it for almost 3 month and since I have a BB membership I have 60 days to return it and we will be returning it tonight. I’m so disappointed this didn’t work out because it’s such a cool concept.

Hello there, BenS. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand that you're facing several issues with the LG WM6998HBA washer-dryer combo, and we truly appreciate your detailed feedback. It's clear that you've encountered lint accumulation and drying issues, as well as some malfunctioning during drying cycles. We want to ass
ist you with this and explore potential solutions.

To address the lint issue, we recommend cleaning the lint filter more frequently and ensuring that the vent area is clear of any blockages. It may also help to run a cleaning cycle on the washer to prevent lint buildup over time. If the dryer mode continues unexpectedly, this could be related to a setting issue, which we can assist you with troubleshooting.

Hi, Nicole. Thanks for sharing what’s been happening with your LG Wash Combo (WM6998HBA) model. We understand the importance of having a washer‑dryer combo that runs smoothly without repeated error codes or extended dry times. For this unit, one helpful step is to clean the lint filter located inside the door area and ensure the drain pump filter is clear, as buildup in either area can cause drying cycles to run much longer than expected. Running the Tub Clean cycle can also help reset internal sensors and improve overall operation. For more guidance, visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6ZpcvjFcvo. The washer does an ok job like any washer should. The dryer doesn't dry as much as a regular dryer but it is also ok. However, the amount of lint that accumulates at the door gasket is insane. Every time that I use the dryer I have to spend 8-10 min cleaning the door lint from the door gasket. If I knew that it would be like this I would not have bought it. This happened from the start. I contacted LG customer service multiple times and basically was told that this is how it is.

Hi there. Thank you for sharing your experience with the WM6998HBA. We understand that while the washer performs adequately, the dryer’s lint accumulation at the door gasket is causing significant inconvenience and that your previous interactions with customer service did not resolve the issue.

As a first step, please ensure that the lint filter and any additional filters are thoroughly cleaned after each use. Excess lint buildup can sometimes occur if the filters are not cleaned regularly. Additionally, checking if there’s any obstruction in the dryer’s venting system might help.

I love having one matchine to set and forget. But we have encountered a few things we have to say may have not been the best choice. The loads have to be very small to dry completely after the 2-3 hours. And our shirts or uniforms come out of the dryer wrinkled which didn’t have that issue with a separate dryer / washer machines. We are having to do an additional drying cycle for 30 min to make sure it dries but remains wrinkled. We have also noticed the top of the dryer seems to collect dust on the top where the filter is located so the dryer looks dirty. After the month, we were re-thinking the investment since our last washer and dryer had lasted us 8 years and still was drying. The only reason we purchased this machine was to upgrade and hope to see a decrease in energy consumption.

Hi, Becca. Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with the WM6998HBA Washer Dryer Combo. It’s important that your appliance meets your needs effectively. Here are some tips to help improve your experience:

      1. For optimal drying, try to keep the load sizes smaller. Washer dryer combos typically handle smaller loads better than traditional separate machines. Overloading can result in longer drying times and wrinkles.

      2. To reduce wrinkles, consider using the Wrinkle Care or similar setting if available. You can also try removing items promptly once the cycle is complete and hanging them up immediately to minimize wrinkling.

      3. If you find that clothes aren’t fully dry after the initial cycle, using a short additional drying cycle is a good practice. However, ensure the load isn’t too large as this can hinder the drying efficiency.

      4. Regularly cleaning the filter and wiping down the exterior can help keep your machine looking clean and prevent dust buildup.

      5. While washer dryer combos can be efficient, their drying capabilities can differ from separate units. Monitoring energy consumption can help gauge if the expected savings are being met.

For further assistance, our support team is available to help optimize your washer dryer combo’s performance. Reach out to @LGUSSupport for personalized guidance and tips.

Coming in the LG washer seemed like it will be a perfect fit for my home and family, but it was nothing what I expected. The washer itself washes the clothes nicely and get them clean the cycles that it have are good cycles, but the drying capacity and timeframe takes a very long time. I’m finding myself having to re-dry the clothes. It takes over four hours for clothes to dry to then have to Restart the dryer to dry the clothes all over again the lint box is always asking to be cleaned, even when it’s not nearly any lit in the screen, great concept, poor production.

We aim to offer top-notch products that exceed our customers' needs and expectations. Here are a couple of things you can try to improve drying performance: check that the vent hose isn’t kinked and is properly connected, as airflow issues can slow drying. Lint can also accumulate in the vent system, so inspect it thoroughly. Additionally, avoid overloading the dryer; try smaller loads to increase efficiency. When the unit is working it was great. Easy to start and just let run and pull out clean dry clothes. Then the issues started. We've had three service calls to come fix the unit. None of which have actually fixed the original issue. Bought Jan. 2024 and worked great for 6-8 months. Suggest going with separate units. Too much money for issues and we regularly cleaned machine and still had it break down.

Has broken down twice in less than a year, luckily I bought the extended warranty because miraculously it stopped working right after the manufacturer warranty expired, DO NOT purchase any Samsung appliances they break down every time right after the manufacturer warranty expires

I’ve had this for 10 months and I can't stand it. I regret the purchase every day. Every time I run a load I have to spend 5 minutes cleaning lint off of the door seal. Every time I run a load it shakes and rattles and makes a general racket. About half the time I run a load it runs for hours and hours and I end up with damp laundry anyway. The lint filter is on the top so you can’t stack anything on top.

Hi, Flaximus. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We understand your concern about the LG Wash Combo (WM6998HBA) model. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs and expectations. For the lint buildup on the door seal, we recommend checking the lint filter, as well as the drain pump filter, to ensure they’re clean and clear of any debris. If the buildup persists, please reach out to us so we can guide you through additional troubleshooting steps or explore service options. If the washer is not properly leveled, it can cause excessive vibration and noise. Make sure the washer is on a flat, level surface, and check that the adjustable feet are properly positioned. For the long wash cycles, and damp laundry, we suggest checking the cycle type and ensuring the load isn’t overloaded, as that can sometimes affect both washing and drying efficiency. If the issue continues, please send us a private message on social media @LGUSSupport with your case details, and we’ll work with you to troubleshoot further or look into potential repairs. ^Juvy LG

Worked great for 2 months, now it continues to dry until you manually turn it off. Our clothes will be completely dry and it will continue to run through the night. According to the LG customer service agent, there is no humidity sensor in this model.

Hi, Jeff. Thank you for sharing your experience with the LG Wash Combo (WM6998HBA) model. We understand your concern about the dryer keeps running even when your clothes are dry. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products and ensure a smooth experience.

Although the model may not have a humidity sensor, you can try adjusting the cycle settings. For instance, using a timed dry option might help control the drying time more precisely. You can also check the lint filter and vent system to ensure they are clean, as any obstructions can sometimes cause the dryer to run longer than necessary. NOT VERY PET FRIENDLY

Just had mine delivered a day ago. As noted by another commenter the odor is pretty bad, Per Lg's virtual assistant it states to run about 20 empy cycles to get smell to go away. I expecting longer wash/dry times but as its only myself that is not so much of an issue 5 hrs to wash queen comforter and sheets, regular load 2-2.5 hrs, towels around 3 hrs This thing is also horrible with pet hair, it just stays in the drum, dries to the rubber door seal and does not seem to be able to make its way up to the actual lint filter assembly so you have to completely clean the door before you pull your clothes out. I have run 3 empty cycles since washing my bedding and now the lint trap door wont open for some reason and I am still vacuuming dog hair out of the drum and door seal.

Hi, MadRabit. We would like to express our gratitude for taking the time to review your LG WashCombo (WM6998HBA) model. We understand that the odor and the pet hair accumulation have been frustrating for you. Regarding the odor, running empty cycles as suggested by our virtual assistant is a common practice to eliminate any lingering smells from a new machine. As for the pet hair accumulation, we apologize for the inconvenience it has caused. Our washers are designed to handle a variety of laundry needs, including pet hair. For help, tips, and guidance regarding this, air dry and vacuum the tub. Start the cleaning process by removing any loose dog hair from the washer tub. Wipe with a damp cloth. Run a rinse cycle with vinegar. Clean your washer tub with a fresh tablet. Add a floating lint trap and last Clean the pump filter trap. If you require further assistance, please reach out to us on social media @LGUSSupport so we can help you further. We're here to assist and ensure that you have a positive experience with our products. ^Juvy LG

Started off great. We dont mind the longer drying time because we constantly leave clothes in the washer to long and have to rewash. So it actually saves us time. Allowed our family of 6 to get caught up on laundry for the first time in a while. Now we are having problems with it not stopping drying. Runs long and hot.

Not a great purchase for a family with kids, especially in sports. From start to finish each load takes over six hours to complete. This creates a constant bottleneck for me doing laundry for my family. REGRET this purchase.

Hello there, Kelley. Thank you for sharing your experience with the WM6998HBA washer. We understand that the extended wash cycle times have created a bottleneck in your laundry routine, especially for a busy family. You may access this link related to your concern: https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/lg-top-load-washer-cycles-and-options--1436976925348

To help address this issue, we recommend checking if the washer is set to the correct cycle for the type of load you're washing. Using the "Speed Wash" cycle for smaller loads or selecting options that allow for a shorter wash time might help reduce the overall duration. Additionally, ensuring that the washer is not overloaded can also contribute to more efficient wash cycles.

We appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve our products and services. If the issue persists or if there are any specific settings you’d like assistance with, please reach out to our customer support team. You can send us a private message on Social Media @LGUSSupport, and we’ll be glad to assist you further.

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to help you resolve this issue soon!

I was excited about the purchase, but only for a month....following that the filter ( which i thought was supercool when functional) got stuck. It was hard navigating through LG support but finally i was able to get them to take a look at it. They need to replace the whole filter unit but of course the return period with LG expired a few days ago and I'm still waiting for it to be fixed. Ill update the review with LG support as i'm in touch with them. If your top filter stops working, please just return the unit to best buy. An additonal waste was I had to pay for a new pedestal instead of using my old ones as the bestbuy guys who arrived said they dont place the new machine on old, prepurchased pedestals. ...

    OPEN BOX was defective.

I purchased this model that had been returned by someone else. I was told it had been tested and was not refurbished. It did not work well and it was defective. Since it was not eligible for delivery, I also spent an extra $150 for someone to delivery and install. I wish I had been informed that there was no benefit to purchasing an "open box" item rather than a risk. I wasted $150 and not sure if an unopened box version will perform much better than this open box one. Disappointed I am $150 out of pocket after returning this.
