Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the air fryer and ease of use as top features of the HomeCHEF CD87KS Multioven Microwave. Many appreciate its multiple functions, including the microwave, broiler, and convection capabilities, but some find the controls require a learning curve and the appliance is noisy. The stainless steel finish is visually appealing to many, although it is prone to fingerprints.

    Versatile Microwave Replacement

This is the highly versatile replacement for our microwave I have been waiting for. An updated combination of a microwave and toaster oven +. The electronics are high end. Highly preprogrammed and sensors that manage many functions. It microwaves, broils, bakes, and airfrys, as well as combines some of these at the same time. You also need an engineering degree to operate it. Actually not so bad but with all these functions the controls are very different from a traditional microwave. Prepare to spend a fair bit of time with the manual. Once you have been through it, it isn't so bad. It works really well and produces results you can't get in a microwave.

    Great Unit! We Love It!

We saw this in the store and took a gamble because of the claimed feature set -- and ended up really liking it! The unit performs well in all modes. We have been impressed by a lot of little fit and finish touches that we otherwise never noticed -- little things like how easy it is to open the door (you don't have to push so hard that the whole unit might shift) -- or the ability to configure the sounds (beeps) it makes to be less obnoxious. At first I was dubious about the lack of number buttons; you set cook time and many options by turning the large knob. (Though for quick settings, there is also a "quick 30 seconds" button that you can push a couple of times to add 30 seconds more -- up to about 3 or 4 minutes total.) I've been surprised how easy it has been for us to get used to the controls -- it turns out not to be a problem for us. Minus one star for potentially confusing instructions. One does need to carefully read and think about the directions in the air fryer and convection modes. The directions are very complete (maybe overly so), but seem not to have been written by or for US English speakers; If you move too fast, it can look like every mode uses all of the included lifter, pan, and basket accessories (but in different configurations). If you're not careful and thoughtful, you can end up using the wrong combination, with unpredictable results. With hindsight, it seems likely the writer was trying to be too complete and ended up being confusing. Even with the instructions, it took a couple of tries for us to get it right in each mode.

    Overall a versatile appliance

I have had for a year now, and am basically happy with it, but it does have some shortcomings. The microwave is not super powerful, but gets the job done. It is very loud though and has a cooling feature that I have never experienced before. It seems like it is still running after it has stopped. The Air fryer seems like it doesn't work at all to me. No way to select a temperature and takes forever to cook anything so don't buy it for that feature. It does bake pretty well which is invaluable to me on a holiday because I have a smaller than normal oven. This allows me to cook side dishes while the main item is in the oven. For this alone I would recommend it. Controls are not the easiest to use. To select a temperature you have to keep hitting the button over and over until you see the desired number instead of being able to put a number in, but you get used to it. Overall I am pleased, I just wish the air fryer was better. That would have made it a home run.

Smaller than i would have liked, however it has a wide range of capabilities. Love the convection oven feature. Controls are not intuitive but very simple once you understand it.

Very versatile combination Microwave/Convection Oven/Air-Fryer with Inverter system that gives better power management. Well designed with quality materials, should have long service life. The controls take some familiarization, and careful study of the not very well organized owners manual is required to fully utilize its capabilities. However, basic microwave and convection functions are straight forward. Good value despite being somewhat pricey.

Looks: The beautiful stainless steel sleek, modern minimalist design looks fantastic! Size: The glass turntable is just over 14”. Plenty of room for a large pizza. Also, I was able to spread out 2 large sweet potato cut fries in one layer in the air-fryer basket. Controls: The controls are simple looking (just 6 buttons & a dial); however, I had to rely heavily on the User Manual (paper copy included) to operate each function. Not entirely intuitive, but the more I use it, the less I need to refer back to the Manual. Function: I’ve never had an appliance that could microwave AND bake. This is amazing! It can Broil, Air Fry, Convection Bake & Microwave. The Microwave is a bit more powerful than my old unit (which I’m happily sending to the dump). The Sensor Reheat option is wonderful! You can place a cold, previously cooked item inside, press the dial/start, & it will automatically sense when to stir & when to stop heating. I didn’t have much success with the AirFry function. I tried it with some fresh sweet potato fries using the AirFry Chart in the manual. They came out golden brown & evenly cooked, but not crispy at all (except at the very tips). They were actually a little rubbery on the outside & mushy on the inside. Definitely could not have cooked them any longer (28 min with 30-40min recommended). I’ll withhold judgement on that function until I try again as it could be user error. :-) The Convection Bake mode truly shines. Everything I’ve tried comes out evenly cooked & actually better than my gas oven. A prime example is bacon. I always have to flip & turn the bacon strips in my gas oven to get them evenly cooked. I didn’t have to make any adjustments with this oven. You do need to adjust your recipes if you’re not used to convection however. It requires much less cooking time than a conventional oven. Overall: Combining the beautiful appearance with all the cooking functions needed in a standard kitchen & Panasonic’s reputation for durability, this oven gets 5 stars all the way.
