High tech microwave that heats and cooks very well

I love this Panasonic 1.4 cu. ft. countertop microwave. Before I get into the actual review of the microwave, I have to give 2 thumbs up to their customer service department. I had a slight issue with this microwave, but they were extremely helpful in helping me resolve my issue. Out of the box, you will notice how light this microwave is. This is important since it is a countertop and most likely you will move it when you reconfigure your counter space. Second, I love the design of this microwave. It looks very high tech and just has a very slick design to it with the stainless steel. Heating and cooking: It does a marvelous job at both. I thought I would miss not having numbers on the pad, but the way this microwave is designed, heating and cooking foods just got much easier. The Quick 30 second button makes choosing a time limit very easy. You can choose the power and time with the microwave button along with the main knob. We do alot of popcorn bags in my house, so the Popcorn button was a must when choosing a new microwave. This microwave produces very will popped bags. The main reason why I got this Panasonic is the inverter technology. This technology allows your food to be evenly heated throughout. No more cold spots! Alexa feature: This Panasonic countertop microwave comes with over 100 Alexa commands. This feature is very easy to set up. You will just need the Alexa app on your phone. It took me approximately 2 minutes to get this feature set up and it is well worth it. My wife and I are constantly shuttling our kids to activities and those really busy days it is so nice to program the microwave with the help of Alexa. I can tell it to start warming up my food at a certain time and length. When I walk in the door, our food is ready to be eaten. It has been a true time saver! Overall, I am highly satisfied with this Panasonic microwave. It looks nice, does a great job of heating my food and it has great tech features. If you are in the market for a new microwave, I highly recommend this Panasonic.

    Can’t Beat Inverter Technology

TLDR; Inverter technology allows the microwave to cook at a steady, constant power level. When using any of the automated modes (auto cook, auto defrost, reheat), its built-in sensor technology senses steam and moisture and will make adjustments to time and power level. Alexa integration surprisingly makes using this microwave a lot easier than pushing buttons on the microwave. You still can be old skool and specify a cook time and power level, if you choose. I’ve always been a fan of inverter microwaves and every time I encounter one that is not (at work, at a friends house, etc), I get a bit triggered because I know I’m going to either have unevenly heated or over-nuked food somehow. For those not familiar with inverter microwaves, the best example I can think of right now is your oven at home. When you cook anything in your oven, you set a specific temperature, say 350 degrees, and you confidently put your food in to bake. This is the behavior of an inverter microwave when power levels are set. Now imagine if you could only set your oven to the max setting (500 degrees maybe?) and had to sit there and turn the oven on and off to get as close to a 350 degree temp as possible. This is your conventional microwave when power levels are set. And if you haven’t noticed already, your conventional microwave will cycle on and off to achieve the set power level. As you can imagine, steady, constant heat is what we always strive for when cooking anything, whether you’re on a stovetop, grilling in the backyard, baking in the oven or even using the sous vide. Panasonic has been innovating and improving on inverter technology for the last 30 years. So the microwave, yeah? The NV-SV79MS Inverter Microwave has been the best microwave I have ever used to date, mainly because of its automation from both a sensor cooking perspective as well as a smart home perspective. First, in combination with its inverter technology, sensor cooking allows the unit to decide how to adjust time and power levels to achieve that perfectly heated, cooked food. For instance, if you’ve ever cooked oatmeal in the microwave, you’ve probably had lava overflows or sat in front of the microwave to make sure it doesn’t overflow. With the NV-SV79MS, you simply turn the main knob to the Oatmeal preset, press start and walk away. In all my testing thus far, I have not been able to get my typical oatmeal bowl to overflow. What’s even sweeter is now I can cook two bowls together and I'll still come out with perfect oatmeal bowls every time. Along with the oatmeal preset, there are a total of 20 preset options from coffee to frozen entrée to melting butter. Panasonic doesn’t want you to go traditional with time-based usage and rather have you trust them to use their presets. Along with the presets is the defroster mode called Turbo Defrost. Using the same techniques, it utilizes the inverter technology and sensor cooking to make sure your defrost is perfect. The only thing you need to specify is the weight so that it has a baseline to start from. Most important thing to remember is that the microwave is not cycling on and off; it’s providing constant level power to ensure an even defrost. The NV-SV79MS can still be used like a traditional microwave in that you can set a specific time and power level. It even has a “Quick 30” seconds if you’re just looking for a quick nuke, and a few pushes of this button will add an additional 30 seconds of time. For us traditional users, we know this is our go-to method of using a microwave and it’s still on the unit if you choose to use it. Last thing I want to touch on is Alexa integration and how surprised I was with it. The best way I can describe its use is like having a person at your home who knows how to use the microwave, and you telling this person what you want to heat. Alexa will set up the microwave for your specific request instead of you having to press the buttons on the unit. I feel that Turbo Defrosting will be the best use of Alexa, as you can specify weight and product (3 lbs of ground beef, for example). So you would say, “Alexa, defrost 3 pounds of ground beef” and it’s off to the races. In the same fashion, you can also tell Alexa to reheat a cup of coffee, an ounce or more of dessert, or pizza with no quantity specification. There is a whole page and a half of commands found in the manual. But let’s not forget that we can even tell Alexa to microwave for X minutes and Y seconds at power level 5, if you need to do that. Alexa setup was very easy and can be done in the Alexa app on your phone as it will automatically detect the presence of the NV-SV79MS. I keep an Echo Dot in the kitchen to utilize the Alexa commands with ease.

This item is recommended for folks who use integrated Alexia technology for their household because controlling your microwave with voice commands are the draw here. Other than the fancy tech features, it is a good microwave overall with fast even cooking & premium options that you would expect from this price point. Note: the 1st microwave I received was defective & got it replaced with a fully working one. Negative: Instructions could be better especially concerning the Sensor Cooking feature. There is slight learning curve when using manual cooking with the knob, but I did get used to it. Setting up Alexa for 1st time is quite easy by scanning QR code with app then adding it to Alexa. I had no issues adding the microwave to 2 smart devices that use Alexa. Since I use Alexa with other products & feel using voice commands is way more convenient than manually hitting buttons. I cooked a frozen burrito with command “Alexa cook frozen burrito” which came out perfectly along with many other frozen entrees from Trader Joes. You can traditionally cook by just hitting the microwave button & set time/weight. Cooking can also be done by selecting a preset or Sensor Cooking. (Still a little fuzzy on how to use this?) This microwave is must faster in the cooking dept than my prior one, with dishes coming out evenly cook “Inverter Tech” especially when you defrost meat. So far, I am pleased with it.

My trusty old microwave bit the dust and I needed a replacement. After much research, I decided I wanted a voice activated microwave that worked with the Alexa app. The setup is SO easy that I was literally up and using the microwave in ten minutes. The unit outputs 1200 watts and is extremely efficient. It is a much smaller unit than my old one, but it definitely cooks faster and better! Some Alexa commands may take a little practice, but most items only require me to say, “Alexa, cook for X minutes”. I love that my microwave gets touched WAY less and the front stays cleaner in the process. I still have a few dishes to learn, but I am extremely happy with my purchase and highly recommend it to other potential buyers.

Super Technology and Easy to Use

This microwave has a very clean design. I like the well thought out controls. It is a little different to use than most microwaves but ultimately is very simple and logical – tip of the cap to the Panasonic engineers. It is loaded with the latest technology in terms of sensor cooking by time or by weight. You can even set the microwave to keep food warm for a specified time – never had that option before and it is useful. It is a good idea to read the manual for all the operational procedures which I think will certainly make anyone delighted with the capabilities of this microwave. This microwave is a full 1200 watts which is unlike some of the under powered units. It has a beautiful stainless steel finish. It is in the medium size range at 1.4 cubic feet. The interior is a very nice non-stick surface. A feature I never had before is the ability to link this microwave to Alexa. I have an Echo Dot and it is simple to add this device to the Alexa app on your phone. I have to admit that I now always use Alexa to command the microwave. You can just say “Alexa microwave for 2 minutes and ten seconds” or even “Alexa microwave power 5 for 47 seconds”. Like magic the microwave will start. Of course you can tell Alexa to stop the microwave at any time. The manufacturer provides a very nice and comprehensive manual, not just a start up guide. Also included is a card that lists lots of command suggestions that you can use with Alexa – I’ve referred to that several times and I keep it near the unit. You can control the microwave easily from the panel if you don’t want to use Alexa. One odd thing is that the time of day display goes blank intentionally after a short period of time. There is a blurb in the manual about …’this is done to save energy’. I did not find a way to just keep the time of day on the display. It will return if you open the microwave door or press any of the controls. I would rather keep the time of day displayed – I don’t think it uses much energy, so the engineers goofed on this design point. A very important design point is that this microwave uses inverter technology. This means the power is constant. This technology has proven to cook or defrost without removing some of the flavor. This is somewhat objective but it is logical that the inverter technology heats more evenly and smoothly. You might recall that when you defrost, you will hear the microwave turn off and on. So in the defrost process you achieve say 50% cooking power. But this really means it delivers 100% and then turns off an equal amount of time to effectively deliver only 50% power. When you defrost with this microwave or use 20% or 50% power or whatever; the microwave delivers the power constantly at the reduced power… there is no on and off cycling. What I can see in the industry is this is the top method and will turn out better tasting meals. You can use the auto sensing that is built into the unit to cook or simply use the well thought out controls. All the operations are explained really well in the manual. I highly recommend this microwave for its capabilities including the ability to just tell Alexa to handle the settings – turns out Alexa is a wonderful option that I use all the time now.

I thought it was a little weird at first having a microwave that you can control by voice and not have number buttons on the screen to enter the amount of time you wanted to set it to, just open your Alexa app connect via wifi scan the QR code & your on your way with quick & easy voice control with 100 voice commands I moved me Alexa to the kitchen so it close by & can be cleaning while making a meal I’ve never really used the microwave except for simple warming up leftovers as making popcorn. So I decided to give it a try I first used the defrost which defrosted my boneless chicken breast pulled it out seasoned it & put it back to cook choose the weight & it cooked to perfection. Baked potatoes also cooked good not dry or undercooked, always stood there and watched my popcorn it has 3 level setting to make popcorn so it wouldn’t burn I pushed the popcorn button and left it cooked perfect and did not burn, so many preset options, I was excited side it was definitely bigger then my previous countertops microwave it have a removable glass try for easy cleaning, 1.4 CU ft of cooking space with 1200 watts of power, auto adjusting cooking for varies foods, nice stainless steel body fit in perfectly with the rest of my appliances. Loving my new Panasonic NN-SV7MS, it makes me feel a little lazy as much as I’ve been using it hands free no need to get your microwave dirty when multitasking cooking meals.

One of the Best Microwave Ovens

The Panasonic NN-SV79MS 1.4 Cu Ft Microwave Oven with Inverter Technology and Alexa compatibility is a beauty! With its stainless steel design, it matches most of my other kitchen appliances and shines much brighter. This microwave can be set up to respond to voice commands after setting it up to use Amazon's Alexa making it quite easy to use. The oven cooks very evenly and thoroughly using Panasonic's Inverter technology. The device fits under my kitchen cabinets and is a very nice addition to my kitchen. My only complaint is the thick black power cord - it makes it very hard to put it against the counter wall and is shorter than I wish it was - could use another 2-3 inches in length. The oven comes with convection and Sensor cook, uses 1200 watts, has an LED display and a knob you turn to manually select cooking time if you so desire. There is no number pad on the front panel to input from. It takes a bit of learning to set up and get using the microwave but once you have, it works easily and very well.

Great microwave that includes Alexa functionality!

This is my first time using an inverter microwave and my first time using an Alexa enabled microwave, so this was a new experience. This microwave does a great job at microwaving. Food cooks evenly and consistently thanks to the inverter technology. I can definitely tell that this does a better job of heating food evenly and consistently than my previous non-inverter microwave. When it comes to the Alexa functionality, that did work pretty well. It allows you to tell Alexa a specific amount of time you want to cook something and then the microwave starts. From my usage of this feature, it always worked reliably and quickly. That being said, you do still have to walk up to the microwave, open the door, and put the food inside. By the time you do all that and are standing right there, I personally prefer to just set the microwave manually. I think it is quicker and easier. For me, the Alexa functionality feels like it requires more effort than just setting the microwave manually, so I don’t expect to be using that functionality much. I wouldn’t spend extra money on that feature unless it is something you really want and feel you have a use case for. Some may really like this feature, but for me, it feels like more of a gimmick. There are some things I did not like about this microwave that I would like to point out. When I received this microwave the first time, the unit that was sent to me was defective and only worked intermittently. Fortunately, the replacement is working properly, but it does have an annoying sound that comes from the microwave that doesn’t seem normal to me. It is very noticeable when I run the microwave. Not sure if that is just my unit or what but the first unit that did work intermittently never seemed to have this sound. It doesn’t seem like the sound has affected the functionality of the unit though, which is good. I do wonder if Panasonic is having some quality control issues with these units considering these issues I experienced. A few other things to point out. There is no keypad on this unit to type in the time to cook something. Either you can use Alexa or you turn the knob on the unit to set the time you want. It is more difficult to use the knob if you need a long amount of cooking time as it sets the time in 5 second increments. Also, our previous microwave would display the clock at all times, which was very useful. This Panasonic unit only displays the clock when you are using it and for a short period after. I couldn’t find any setting to enable it to stay on all the time which is quite disappointing. Keeping the time on uses very little power at all, so not sure why there couldn’t have been an option to have it stay on. It is really nice that the clock on this syncs to the internet so you don’t have to set it, but it is less useful since it doesn’t stay on all the time. Overall, this is a good microwave. I really like the inverter technology and how well it cooks food, which is the most important thing. While I did have some issues with this unit and think there could be improvements to this Microwave in the future, I am happy with it overall. If you want a microwave that does a great job of cooking and has Alexa functionality, this is a great option!

The Panasonic Microwave with Inverter Technology and Alexa compatibility is a nice microwave with smart home tech inside. Setting up the microwave was fairly easy and not too complicated. The only installation is placing the Glass Tray and Roller Ring on the inside of the microwave. Pretty much every microwave I’ve purchased requires installing the tray and roller ringer inside the unit after taking it out of the packaging. The 58 page manual is very thorough with easy to read instructions and illustrations. The microwave has two ways of setting up Alexa. The Zero-Touch method requires you to have opted in to link your device to your Amazon purchase. Since this did not apply to me, I had to use the Barcode Setup method. This method requires you to open the Alexa app on your mobile device and it will automatically find the device. The Alexa app was not able to automatically find the device, so I clicked on Add Device and scanned the Barcode that is located on the inside panel of the microwave. The microwave was not able to connect to my Wifi because the WiFi setting, which should be in ready mode, was not. I had to press and hold the Popcorn button for about 3 seconds to turn on the microwave’s WiFi. I was then able to complete the setup process of pairing it with Alexa. Using Alexa commands is fast. As soon as I give the command to my Alexa home device, it instantly initiate the command to the microwave. You really don’t need a microwave with Alexa support, but it’s good to have for those times you want to impress someone, or for those times when you’re cooking something that requires additional steps. Selecting the time and pressing start for most microwaves is quick and easy. This microwave with built in Alexa is great for those times when you have a specific time you’d like to enter, along with a certain power level you’d like the food to be cooked at. I can quickly initiate that command using Alexa, rather than pushing a bunch of different buttons on a traditional microwave to execute the same command. The microwave cooks much faster than my previous microwave. It’s probably due to the Inverter technology. I don’t have to cook or warmup my food as long as I did on my previous microwave. The build quality is pretty good. However, I noticed that when I close the door it doesn’t sound as premium as my previous microwave. It has a rather cheap and loud sound. I also noticed the feet underneath the microwave makes is sit up higher than my previous microwave. I have my microwave installed in an opening above my oven. With the taller feet on this microwave, it creates a larger space between the microwave and the shelf it’s sitting on. It would have been nice if the feet were a tad smaller, so it could give it a cleaner look where I have it installed. Overall, I’m enjoying this microwave with it’s built in Alexa features.

    Inverter Technology Rocks

Apparently I have been living in a cave and had no idea what inverter technology is. Rather than blasting at 100% power for various intervals to achieve slower cooking this unit can throttle to a specific constant output power, which, in this case, results in even more efficient cooking especially in rewarm and defrost modes. Although I have been happy with my previous unit I could not resist the opportunity to own and use my first smart appliance. My inner geek as been fulfilled. The ability to issue vocal commands as you place the food in the device is oh so convenient. Even with a good layout with all the functions available these days it can take a moment to find the correct setting. Now it is as easy as saying Alexa cook 4 potatoes. For completely manual operation the front panel is easy to use even with the limited number of inputs. But why bother when you can manually say Alexa cook for 4 minutes at 70% power. The thing is that the presets are just excellent. Internal sensors detect temperature and that along with the basic parameters such as food type, execution, and weight/quantity the system produces nicely defrosted foods, perfectly cooked frozen or fresh vegies etc. All in all a great microwave that will fulfill your inner geek while preforming various culinary functions very well. Enjoy!

First class microwave with sharp appearance and highly functional. Performs as would be expected of any microwave really but with some neat added perks new tricks. This thing is smart compatible and can be controlled with the Alexa app. Setup is simple – just follow the included instructions and once linked to you Alexa account the microwave will function and respond to voice commands through the app. This is high power 1200 watts but also highly efficient and adjust its own power based on what you’re cooking. Many common presets and function items to get things cooking easily without much hassle. The large 1.4 cubic feet interior capacity makes with quite capable to handle pretty much any size dish. Of course has the almighty and always necessary “POPCORN” button so rest assured you will still be able to host movie night. Overall main takeaways for me are that this is a nice looking powerful unit with some neat new voice command features that are cool if you’re in to that, but for me seemed a little but over the top for a microwave, but still very cool none the less.
