Does not work with Ring alarm system alone

Saw this mailbox sensor and were very excited to use it, only to discover that it requires a separate ($50!) hub from ring. We already have a smart hub we are very happy with and are not interested in buying another just to make this device work.

The Ring Smart Lighting lights run on a power efficient, long-range RF Network. The Bridge converts the RF signals to wifi to deliver information from the system to you in the form of alerts or diagnostic information. It also translates commands from you sent on wifi to the RF network to control the lights.
We notify our customers about the required Ring bridge on Best Buy's site under the device specifications, on our Ring website under the product details, and on the box of all Ring smart lighting devices.
Also Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. This online forum is divided into four categories: Product Boards, Ring Updates, Tips + Tricks, and a Moderators’ Corner. Bad service

I finally gave up on Best Buy to make things right, bad attitude.

It sounds like you have some concerns with getting your devices set up. The Mailbox Sensor goes on the inside of your mailbox door. The antenna goes on the outside, and its cable needs to run inside to the sensor. Wi-fi misinformation

As an alternative, you can use select Amazon Echo or Alexa devices as a ring bridge: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059329551-Using-your-Echo-devices-as-a-Smart-Lighting-Bridge. The Ring Bridge is the central hub that is required to integrate Ring smart lights, motion sensors, and transformers into your Ring App. The Ring Bridge connects to the Ring App using your home wifi network and connects to other Ring Smart Lighting products using a proprietary long-range communication protocol. For the Ring Mailbox Sensor, you will need a Ring Bridge or a compatible Amazon Echo device that can function as a Bridge. Ring needs to fix this
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This device has a terrible flaw that could easily be fixed by a software update from Ring. There is no way to share the status of this with other users on your account. So only the account owner will receive notifications when motion is detected, none of your authorized users on your account. Ring has been aware of this issue for two years now and it has not been fixed. So if you bought this expecting all members of your house to get notified (like I did) you will be disappointed.

Posted .Hi JaBo. Making sure everyone in your home is notified is definitely a key concern. Ring Smart Lighting devices, including the Mailbox Sensor, cannot be shared with Shared Users at this time. I'd recommend adding this idea to the Feature Request board on the Ring Community, which you can find here: https://community.ring.com/c/products/24. 1st Bad Ring device I purchased, Avoid

No it wasn’t installed wrong, look at the Ring forum complaints. Ring customer service has gone way downhill.

The Ring Mailbox Sensor was designed to capture motion based on your specifications to help keep your mailbox secure. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.
It sounds like the device is not operating as you expected in regards to false alerts. We would like to share some information with you regarding what may be causing unwanted motion detection on your device.
Ring Smart Lighting devices, such as the Ring Mailbox Sensor, use a technology called "passive infrared," or PIR, in order to detect motion. PIRs detect motion by detecting changes in heat. As a result, there are other factors that can trigger your device to detect motion. Take note of the weather in your area. Shadows and clouds can cause temperature fluctuations in an area warmed by intense sunlight, and this may trigger unwanted motion events. High winds can be warmer or cooler than the settled air, resulting in motion events as well. Once you've taken into account the environmental factors that could be impacting motion detection, you can adjust the sensitivity of your device through the Ring app so you only receive the alerts you want to.
