Posted .Hi JoeS.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a consistent wifi signal on the Ring Mailbox Sensor. Having a solid connection ensures you do not miss any motion alerts. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with a concrete resolution as quickly as possible.
It sounds like the device is not operating as intended. The Ring Mailbox Sensor is a wireless, battery-powered motion sensor that tells you when your mailbox is opened.
If your mailbox is made of metal, it can block the wireless signal that connects the Mailbox Sensor to your Ring Bridge. Install your Mailbox Sensor with the included antenna to ensure your device stays connected and the wireless signal remains uninterrupted. Flip the switch inside the battery depression to face the octagon symbol (default).
If you do not have a metal mailbox, you can still add the antenna to increase your Ring Mailbox Sensor’s range. The Ring Mailbox Sensor goes on the inside of your mailbox door. The antenna goes on the outside, and its cable needs to run inside to the sensor. To avoid damaging the cable, there must be a hole or gap for the cable to run through. If your mailbox doesn't have one, make your own using the included drill bit. If you are still experiencing connection issues, we recommend moving the Ring Bridge as close to the Mailbox Sensor as possible.
We invite you to reach out to our community if any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Mailbox Sensor. The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other.
Thank you,
Melissa from Ring.

Won’t work without a bridge.

Posted .Hi Calany01. The Mailbox Sensor is indeed a great product. If you don't have a Ring Bridge, you can use select Amazon Echo and Alexa devices as a Bridge. You can learn more about this integration in this Help Center Article here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059329551-Using-your-Echo-devices-as-a-Smart-Lighting-Bridge. Anything but long battery life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One problem with this product-short battery life. I get 8 weeks from either Li or alkaline batteries – that is unacceptable for one to three mailbox openings per day. The battery life is no different during sub zero winter weather than it is during the summer more temperate weather. I have called and spoken with a Ring Rep and have not gotten any answer of ANY value. Their reference to read trouble shooting tips and tricks certainly does not “Solve” the problem or answer the question. I have asked about solar recharging of the mailbox sensor and have not gotten any answer. It certainly makes me very leerly to consider purchasing another product from Ring. This is a known problem with the sensor as witnessed by the number of comments on ring's community site.
