Must create an account to use the TV?
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My mid-scale review might seem harsh to some, as I'll admit the picture quality on the S90D is 5 stars. However, the user interface is insufferable. If anyone can make an amazing OLED TV, it's Samsung. I've purchased at least 3 of their sets over the years (actually, it might be 4 or 5, I don't remember as some were gifts), plus several other vendors' TV offerings. I've always liked the TV's, and certainly have never really been disappointed. However, the smart-TV interface on this system REQUIRES you to have a Samsung account, ostensibly to make channel and provider selection easier, such as when logging-in, you only authenticate with a password one time. However, this also means you cannot watch the TV without an account. "That's not true. It can't be", I hear you say. Believe me, we tried: using over-the-air, Wi-Fi streaming, and a local source from a video game controller. We tried all inputs: HDMI, USB, and Wi-FI antenna. It was simply not possible to watch a TV picture. "So why not just sign-up with a Samsung account?", you retort. We tried that too. Initially when trying to create an account, Samsung said one already existed. Not recalling knowing a user name, or passport for any such previously created account (as their TVs certainly have never required it), we tried to reset it, or click 'forgot user name'. Over and over. It never worked. I'm the computer guy that all friend's and family call when their computer stops working. Maybe I missed something. I have in the past. But we couldn't get a picture, and we could never create an account, and we could restore any apparent existing account. We then tried creating a new account, using a burner user name and password. It wouldn't work (I think the cookie in the phone app was telling Samsung that we had originally tried to use the 'forgotten' (unknown to us) user name, and retaining that information. I considered clearing the device's cache, but in addition to not really wanting to do that, I also felt that time was up. People of Earth, if you cannot watch a TV without an vendor's account, or worse, without an Internet connection (because after all, not all of us need that to watch a streaming program, such as with a locally-installed DVD player), then I would have to consider that TV to be unusable. PC and software vendors discovered years ago that many users work offline, and modified their connection and authentication routines to work with that, else, facing a backlash of users unable to use an expensive computer without an always-on network connection. A TV should not require this either. Perhaps I missed something. Perhaps the account's 'forgot your passport' link server was down that evening. I don't know, but none of it should have been necessary in the first place. We returned the set and when with a different brand.

Thank you for your review. You will need a Samsung Account to access Smart Hub, our network-based smart service that includes apps (e.g., streaming service apps) and our other smart features available through your device.
You may need to use a separate device (laptop, desktop, or mobile phone) to create or log in to a Samsung Account. If you choose not to log in to a Samsung Account, you’ll only be able to connect to external devices (such as HDMI and terrestrial over-the-air TV with the use of antenna tuners). Furthermore, your TV will not be able to use Smart Hub apps. This includes apps such as Netflix and YouTube, as well as Samsung services such as Samsung Health. To resolve this issue, you must log in to your Samsung Account and agree to the Terms and Conditions on your Smart TV.

OLED
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the tv to upgrade my Samsung Crystal UHD TV and honestly, I preferred the picture of my Crystal UHD. I ended up returning this TV because I did not see the dramatic increase in mage quality with my PS5 that I was expecting. The quality of the actual TV build was very nice, but not enough to justify the price.
