The Ambeo max can replace your whole sound system.

This soundbar has really impressed me with the sound quality and immersion. I bought it to replace my aging surround sound system which consisted of a receiver and a 7.1 speaker setup. I choose the Ambeo Max cause I wanted something which could truly fill the room with sound, and so far I've been very happy with switch.
It really does sound awesome. The Ambeo effect, which is customizable, is really cool and is especially impressive when watching Atmos content. I would say compared with my old setup, this sounds more cohesive - more like an overall soundfield rather than sound coming from a series of distinct speakers. I appreciate that it can do this by itself, without multiple separate speakers.
Regarding bass: I have been happy with the level of bass and bass response in music, movies, and games. I love that it has an output for a sub - I still have my old dedicated sub and I'll probably end up hooking it up to see the difference. I would say try it without a sub to see how you like it, if you think you need more bass, you can always add one later.
One small thing I like is the little screen in the front. Much easier to read when changing inputs or sound mode than a series of dots or something behind a mesh.
Right now I have my Xbox Series X plugged into the Soundbar, then the soundbar to the TV. The TV and Xbox say it's passing through 4K HDR and Dolby Vision.
Setup was a bit tricky/wonky at first between with the app and is probably the only con. I plugged the soundbar into a lan internet connection and that helped it to pull down the update. After that it's connectivity has worked great. I'll also mention that with my 2017 TV (arc, not earc) I sometimes have to be careful in the order in which devices are turned on/off otherwise there won't be any sound/picture. Also, this is a big, heavy unit. Make sure you have space for it and possibly some help maneuvering it into place. Temporarily I've placed my TV stand legs on 2x4s to lift it up, in the future I will wall mount the TV.

Awesome! Is this really a “soundbar”?

My initial “out of the box” thoughts on the Sennheiser Ambeo:
1.) I think it can hardly be called a “sound bar”, it’s huge and weights 41lbs. I even had to raise the height of my TV on the stand because the soundbar is 6” tall.
2.) It rivals audio quality from almost any home system I have ever personally heard. No other single soundbar even comes close. I think adding an additional subwoofer would be best for me because I love over the top base at times. However, it really blew me away as a single unit. That would ideally add an additional $500-$1000 however for something of similar quality (thinking one from SVS).
3.) Dolby Atmos sound is incredible, but “other” processed codec is far less impressive due to an absence of dedicated rear channel speakers with their physical location behind you. The Ambeo engine does do a really nice job of simulating 3D spatial sounds however. It can be a pain to find rear channel speaker locations with power readily available in the ideal speaker location.
4.) Is it worth $2700 with tax? I’m not sure. I will continue to use it for a week or so and then decide to keep or return and try something else.
5.) Reported lip sync issues seem to be fixed with firmware upgrades. There is also an adjustment within the Sennheiser App to address this issue if it still exist.
6.) I still need to test this on my LG GX OLED. There have been some reported issues with eARC with this unit.
7.) Finally, stop reading negative reviews and just test myself and enjoy.

I’ve owned the Sony HT-ST1000 for 5 years, so when it started glitching I needed something comparable or better to replace it. Considered the Sonos Arc but after reading the reviews of the Ambeo, decided to splurge. First off, this thing is massive and heavy - if you don’t have a sturdy piece of AV furniture to put this on top of like we do, please get the wall mount. Given the size and the way the speakers are angled especially the upfiring ones this is best suited for wall mount TVs…this is won’t work well for stand mount TVs. Getting this connected to our Wifi via the Google Home app was a little twitchy but got on eventually and downloaded a firmware update. The calibration process using the included microphone is absolutely essential - we did it once when it arrived and again when our subwoofer (an SVS SB-1000 Pro) arrived and it makes a huge difference. To be honest it did a great job without the sub but the sub really rounds out the lower end, especially noticeable on music. On Atmos content it is sublime, simply the best sound system we have every owned and that includes discrete 5.1 systems with wires everywhere and separate speakers. For TV content we keep it on Neutral processing and use Movie and Music settings as necessary. We keep the sub set around 50% volume (-25 dB) and that seems to be a good balance. We push content through an Apple TV 4K and Atmos encoded music sounds just as good as video content…this thing can handle anything you dish at it, if you can afford the price of admission.

Great Apartment Room Filling Sound

I'm an apartment dweller and don't want to clutter the room so bought this as I did not want to take out my stereo speakers all the time for watching movies. The stereo speakers are perfectlyl capable of filling up my room with sound but I have to usually pull them out from back wall when I use them hence I needed something that was always usable and gave similar performance or better. Turns out the Ambeo works better than my stereo for Atmos and Movies. Soundstage seems more like 180Degrees and in my room, sounds better in midfield position. I have a wall on left side and don't have continuous wall on right side so i get pretty good surround on left side. In the Jack Reacher Car chase, I was hearing cars screeching on the left side of the room. more @ 150 degree angle. I don't get any sound over my head but I do get overhead sound in front of me. The atmos effects did manage to project sound overhead from left/right falling just short in front of me but again my room is not perfect for reflections esp on right. I'm very happy with it so far. For movies, I mostly used ambeo boost mode and bump up the midrange in the equalizer to as the effects tend to be just as strong as the vocal in that mode. I believe bass is good, infact I have to bring it down by 1to2db so that I don't disturb my neighbors but ofcourse you can add a sub if you need. Also the ambeo boost mode sounded great with Youtube Live Music. Just use the Equalizer to tailor it to what you prefer.
Although the ambeo mode gives good enough 3d sound and soundstage and instrument separation in music, it's not perfect and definitely good stereo speakers like adam a7x, kef ls50 and other good stereo speakers/monitors. But in the end the soundbar does movies better in ambeo boost mode than my stereo speaker and manage to fill up my room with the effects so pretty sweet and satisfying although leaves a huge hole in my pocket.

I haven’t listened or compared this sound bar to others, but after viewing several YouTube videos comparing sound bars, this one always came out as the best. So I bought it. I am totally blown away with the sound quality of everything I play through it. The Ambios makes everything sound so realistic. Now with Dolby Atmos it reproduces extremely well. The sound is all around the room. It makes movies thrilling and music played with Dolby Atmos is beautiful. I can’t say enough good about it. I feel a $2,500 it is actually a good deal. It is worth much more than that! The bass is impressive, although I did add a 12” sub woofer. The mid range and highs are all there. Also we can finally hear the dialogue of the movies. Although it comes with a remote, the Apple TV remote controls the on-off and the volume of the whole system. The Sennheiser app on my iphone controls everything else. I also love the fact that I don’t have to place speakers around the room to have an excellent surround sound experience. Just be careful not to play it too loud. It has 500 watts of power! You don’t have to play it loud to hear it all! It pairs easily with Bluetooth devices.

Firs of all a got open box unit for $1700. Once I bought this peace and brought it home I was excited because I own the Bose SoundTouch 300 + sub and would like to compare. First issue came is I could not connect to Wi-Fi. The sound bar found network but would not accept a password… I figured an update is required. Manually updated software through USB. Finally it works!!! After calibration - my boy - sound quality is awesome! Atmos rocks!!!( used laptop with Dolby Access app). Base - subwoofer is a must! I found that unit has weak Bluetooth coverage compare to Bose unit.
Will test more when SVS SB3000 arrived).

Color Me Impressed

I purchased the Ambeo after a lot of soul searching, review reading, and nervous sweat. After all, spending $2500 on a single component and then needing to drop an additional sum on a subwoofer is no easy decision. I read reviews that said the Ambeo was amazing in a home theater setting, and others that said it just wasn't as good at home theater as the Samsung HW soundbars with their additional satellite speakers, much less a dedicated Atmos setup with discrete speakers and home theater receiver. Some reviews said the Ambeo sounded great with music; others said that music was 'harsh' sounding or just didn't sound good. With all these varied reviews, how does one pull the trigger on something that is pretty pricey?
Here's what I needed in a soundbar:
1) It needed to sound good with music. I've had dedicated integrated amplifiers with B & W speakers, so I've become picky when it comes to stereo music.
2) I wanted it to be capable of playing music from Roon. For those of you who don't know Roon, it is a specialized music library software that brings all your music from Tidal, Qobuz, and personal drives together and organizes it for listening. Only certain devices are Roon Ready or Tested, and it's been tough to find a soundbar that has this ability.
3) I need a soundbar with an aux input so I can feed it a signal from my Technics SL1200 and DJ ART phono preamp. I prefer actual L/R RCA cables versus a headphone plug. Hard to find a soundbar with this option!
4) I needed it to sound good with Atmos surround, without the need for all sorts of cables, wires, and speakers. I have limited room and my room is far from optimal with an open floor plan on one side.
You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a soundbar that meets those four requirements. Most met only two. I had the Samsung HW-Q90R, and while it sounded great with music and movies, there is no aux input and no Roon ability (as well as requiring rear speakers to sound its best). The Sony HTST 5000 had an aux input but the sound quality was only so-so for me. The LG SN11RG got loud and proud, with an aux input, but sounded harsh and also needed rear speakers to sound good.
When I first saw the Ambeo, I scoffed at its high price. When I include in the $800 price tag for the Martin Logan sub I have, you're looking at $3500 for the package. But, the result of this pairing? Audio nirvana. The Ambeo has a RCA L/R input that I can run my turntable into. It is Chromecast ready, so I can cast music from Roon. Music, with the Ambeo Music function engaged, is three-dimensional and has great height and width. It sounds very close to a nice, budget audiophile stereo system. It has three HDMI inputs so I don't have to run everything into the back of my TV. It sounds shockingly good with surround sound material including Atmos encoded movies. In summary, it ticked all my boxes.
Listening to Captain Fantastic and the Dirt Brown Cowboy on 180 gram vinyl through the Technics and DJ Art preamp fed into the aux inputs with Ambeo Music reveals the Ambeo's musicality. Instruments are spread out in their distinct locations, while Elton's piano is dead center as well as his voice. The final track on this album, Curtains, has a closely miked drum kit with a ton of tom work. The thumps of the toms were realistic and exciting.
Using Roon and listening to Tool's Undertow album fed via Chromecast to the Ambeo (again with the Ambeo Music setting engaged) revealed the Ambeo's ability to get loud. Danny Carey's drum kit was distinct, and the growl of the bass and shriek of the guitars was immaculate while not fatiguing.
I've watched a handful of movies, and come away feeling like I'm not missing anything over a dedicated 5.1.4 setup. Riddick has a scene where rain starts falling on the building that the group is huddled in before getting attacked by a bunch of really crazy looking creatures with scorpion-like tails and giant jaws. The rain sounded like it was coming from directly above me, and at all times I was surrounded by a distinct sound field that really surprised me. I thought that with my open floor plan enveloping surround sound would not be possible with the Ambeo. I was wrong. I don't find myself wanting when it comes to surround sound.
The Ambeo comes with a calibration microphone to help it achieve the amazing sound. It also calibrates the sub while its at it. The remote is nice and heavy. Everything about the Ambeo shouts high quality.
When I brought the Ambeo home, I hoped I would hate it. I hoped that I would take a listen and then take it back. How could I pay so much for just this one component of my home theater? In conclusion, it has been worth it. Gone are all the speakers, speaker cables, and different wires needed to power a discrete setup. Now, all I have is the Ambeo and a sub. My place looks so clean and organized! Ambeo made it possible. What a piece of audiophile equipment this is!

I've had the AMBEO for about two years, and I wanted to get my thoughts out in a review. This thing rocks, but has some serious annoyances.
First, the pros:
Sound quality - I'm not an audiophile, so I'm not gonna quantify this with words. However, the sound is excellent, and brings my games/movies/music to life.
Bass - The bass is strong with this one. Is it inferior to a standalone subwoofer? Yes. However, you have the choice of adding one if you prefer. I live in a condo, so I kept it subwoofer free for my neighbor's sanity.
Size - I know it's one massive 40 pound bar, but it's still way smaller/cleaner than a traditional surround sound system. It goes a long way in keeping your entertainment area clutter free.
Mixed:
The AMBEO effect - The surround sound effect does work, but you need a perfect room with rectangular walls to receive the full effect. For example, my living space has a flat wall on the right, so the surround sound is absolutely UNCANNY there. The left, though, extends off into a kitchen/dining area. Not as many perpendicular walls for the audio to bounce off, so the effect is weaker and more diluted on that side. Definitely think about your room setup before you buy this. It can be the difference between an excellent experience VS a poor one.
Cons:
Jank - I've had this soundbar freeze on me, to the point that I can't even power it off and on. Only way to fix it is with a power cycle. Happens once a month, just enough to be a nuisance.
Wi-fi reliability - every 3-4 months, this thing will disconnect from my home network and refuse to reconnect. Sometimes a simple router/soundbar reset will fix it, sometimes I really need to go digging. If that's the case, it's a 30-45 minute experience in frustration.
Reliance on app - 80% of the functionality of the soundbar, including fine-tuning the audio and most soundbar settings, is built into the app. Therefore when the wifi breaks or the app glitches out, the show stops until you can get it working again.
Final verdict:
Solid hardware, but lots of bugs and jank and connectivity issues that makes it painfully obvious that this thing has teething issues. Frankly, I've owned it for 2 years, and even after multiple firmware updates, these problems still occur.
Without any software issues, this soundbar is tremendous. It's worth the asking price. However, we don't live in that world. I'd still recommend this AMBEO, but only after a deep, DEEP discount.

I have been looking for a soundbar for sometime to replace my receiver setup because of space constraints and heat production. I read tons of reviews on soundbars. Like most of them you take them at face value and make your own mind up. Well after reading quite a few on this soundbar I'd say their right on the money. I was highly resistant to this one because of the price, but I took the plunge and now don't regret it. This is an awesome piece of AV equipment sounds excellent and has some descent bass to it also. But like most of the reviews you would read about the bass, it's a personal preference on how much you want. Well I wanted more and paired it up with a REL HT/1205 Subwoofer that I already had and WOW, WOW. I'm extremely happy with my purchase despite it's hefty price tag. Very well built and the app is very easy to use for setup and soundbar settings. Only other area of concern was the height of the unit. I had to use a TV riser to raise my TV up 5" to clear the bottom of the TV.

I have been an audiophile for years. Have a system built around Magnepans. It begins to be a money pit. Especially with technology changing so rapidly. I bought the Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar for a high end/simple setup in another theater room and it was the cheapest way to replicate being in a movie theater. Of course, I output to a REL subwoofer. But so nice to have all of this in 1 soundbar and no preamp/amp/receiver/7 speakers and a sub to deal with. Don't get me wrong, each end user has their preferences for Movies/TV/Music/Sports, but life is short. Hooking up the Sennheiser was easy. Calibration is amazing. And it took very little effort from me. The Ambeo even tells you to get out of the way during calibration. I would recommend getting a high end Blu-ray player that decodes Dolby Vision and Atmos. I bought 3 OLED TV's in 2018 and please don't get too in the weeds with the eARC vs. ARC debate. It sounds great on just ARC. Then on a high-end Blu-ray player that splits the audio/video, you will get amazing picture and sound on another source anyway. But all in all, above my expectations. Well done Sennheiser!

This sound the way they advertised that you won’t need the subwoofer? I can tell you, you will defensively need one! The sound is crisp, it better be for this much$$$ Another annoying issue is that keeps getting disconnected from my TV I have to go and keep switching from TV speaker to the sound bar. And it’s random so it’s not like it’s every time I turn on TV I have to do it but it does it so much that it becomes very annoying. For example my kids or wife never watch TV with the sound bar on, because you need to go into into settings to switch tv to sound bar . I wish there was bass adjustment, nevertheless be prepared to spend more money because you will need a subwoofer. Also, The Best Buy store I have purchased they never have those sound bars on display so you can’t really experience the sound before you buy.

THE BEST SOUNDBAR ON THE MARKET. Period, this is easily the best sounding soundbar I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. Over the past two years, I’ve bought plenty of soundbars, and done tons of research to find what I was looking for. I’ve tried Sony, JBL, Samsung, and Sonos. I’ve had the complete Sonos setup and I loved it, but then I tested on the Sony HT-A9 and I liked the wider soundstage so it was hard to go back to Sonos. I wasn’t a fan of the Sony SASW5 sub, or the lack of control you have to tweak settings with the HT-A9. So I returned it for the Ambeo, and I could not be happier. Ambeo MODE is absolutely amazing. Cannot recommend this soundbar enough. TOP TEIR

I don’t even think it’s fair to call this a sound bar. It’s literally one of the best sounding speakers I’ve ever heard. I was legit sitting on my couch and could hear sounds behind me from the speaker in front of me while we watched a movie with ATMOS. It was unbelievable. I would absolutely add a solid sub ( I have the SVS sb3000 and paired them both to the arc input of my oled tv. There is no comparison in other sound bars out there. If however, you are looking for brutal wattage and massive sound, this is obviously not for you and you’ll need to spend a whole lot more to build a home theater piece by piece, but this is absolutely top of the food chain in regards to most sub $2500 sound bars and systems.

I moved into our current home a year ago. Having had a dedicated Home Theater Room using a top-of-line Denon 5800 receiver and Klipsch Reference RF-7s and matching satellites, I was concerned on missing out without one. This soundbar, coupled with an 8”-10” sub (I have a high-level Sunfire 8” & 10”, a 12” Boston Acoustics and Klipsch RSW-15 15” subs and I tried them all in my room setup) works very well in a 25x30ft room. Hide the sub. It’s easier if you use an 8”-10”. Make sure you use the HDMI-ARC pass or its all a waste. The combination is very impressive and gets constant compliments ans lots of questions. I watch movies, sports and a lot of music. Very satisified. Expensive, yes but I paid more for the Klipsch reference RF-7s and I dont need the $4K receiver anymore either.

Exceptional Quality… This is by far the BEST SOUNDBAR I have ever experienced‼️ Sennheiser is in a league of its own because there is no competition.
The highs are beautifully replicated
True voice sounds like the characters are in your room with you
The lows are amazing … no sub necessary unless you are creating a theater room
If you are looking for a Sound Bar listen to this one first and I assure you that you will keep coming back to this one
