Entry Level Subwoofer

It’s about 1 cubic foot in size, and has a matte black finish. The polypropylene cone has a rubber surround and the woofer is covered by a black cloth screen. The rear panel of the sub requires a 1” minimum clearance for ventilation. How I Tested It I focused on using a variety of music to test the subwoofer. 10” subwoofers are typically flexible and can produce punchy accurate bass hits as well as rolling bass, so I picked a wide variety of music that would demonstrate this. The music genres included rap, R&B, rock, pop, country, jazz, and reggae. I tested at different volumes and changed the settings of the subwoofer to try to find the sound that I was looking for. Sound Results After testing the subwoofer for a while I found its sound to be fairly average. I wasn’t entirely disappointed, but I wasn’t really wowed either. It did well with rolling base, but suffered with the punchy bass, especially at higher volumes. As with many 10” woofers, it struggled to hit and maintain at the lowest frequencies. This is fairly typical with a 10”, so if you’re looking for really low lows, then you may want a 12” or larger. In some songs the bass got a little lost. It seemed to sound better and stay more controlled at lower volume levels. I did adjust the settings to tune the sub to the best sound that it could offer. On the back panel there is a volume, crossover, and phasing control knob. For my taste, I preferred the phasing to be set at 180 and the crossover to be placed near 95HZ. The crossover goes up to 200HZ, but this allowed a lot of extra noise so I adjusted it to play 95HZ and below. Here is a quick list of Pros and Cons for the MS10SUB. Pros *Small compact design *Good rolling bass production *Included typical control settings *Has a ground lift that can help eliminate noise in the speaker Cons *Average sounding speaker *Punchy bass was not clean at higher volumes *Lower bass frequencies distorted *I took the grill off to see the speaker and now the grill is loose. *The price point for this sub I’m giving the Sonance MS10SUB 3 stars. It seems to be an average subwoofer with a lot of competition at its price point. I like the smaller footprint, but the quality of the bass suffers, especially at higher volumes. Sound quality is always dependent on the ear of the listener so I recommend listening to a few subwoofers in the price range and see which one moves you.

Good for thr price
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The small design and footprint is a win. It packs a decent amount of power and sounds good (but not excellent). If you are looking for a space saver this is an option. If you want big pucnhy sound that doesn't bottom out and performs at all frequencies opt for a 12 inch woofer.

Packs a punch
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This small sub replaced my years old Polk in cabinet woofer. This smaller sized woofer exeeds the bass performance of my polk by a lot. Especially on movies. Perfect size and quality for my small (500 sq ft) home theater set up.

You can easily look them up to get a full set of specs. It took me less than 10 minutes to set this subwoofer up to suit my needs. I set it up using an audio subwoofer test disk and my ears. I know from past experience that using the automatic setup on my AVR will not get the sound I like. I’m sure it’s fine for over performance, but I like a little more punch to my music and movies. I replaced 2 mid end, name brand, powered subwoofers with this 1 unit. I am very impressed. The reason I had 2 other units was because by the time I got the punch I wanted out of 1 it was past it’s working limit. So I bought another one and could then turn the output down to not exceed it’s limits and still get the punch I wanted. This unit had no issue replacing both of the other units and still has plenty of room to push even further. The specs say it is tuned down to 27Hz. My test disk starts at 10Hz and works it way up 1 Hz at a time, staying on each frequency about 5 seconds. They are not misleading you about the tuned frequency. It reproduced sound all the way down to 10Hz, but at 27Hz everything in the house rattled. The amount or raw bass this unit provided at 27Hz was beyond impressive. It is smaller in size than my other units, but outputs at least twice the bass. All specs are available for this unit online so going over each switch and knob is pointless. I have to add that they did forget 1 thing in the specs. It does have auto standby/on. At the first sign of the AVR being turned on the power light turns from red to blue. After the AVR is turned off it takes 30 minutes for the unit to return to standby. I thought 30 minutes was a bit much but I can see that listening at very low volumes they wanted the unit to stay on for the occasional bass punch. This unit preforms better than units priced $100.00 more. My bottom line is, buy it. For a normal size living room, watching movies and listening to music, this is all the subwoofer you will need. Don’t be like me and have to by 2 slightly cheaper ones just to get close. I absolutely didn’t save any money buying 2 subwoofers. I should have just spent the extra money and bought this one. I am now in serious consideration of moving my other 2 subwoofers to my shop and leaving this unit in my living room. It will make the wife happier because it’s smaller and has a cleaner look. If your movie room is dark all the time you might want to put a small piece of black tape over the power light. It is very bright in the dark, shining off the wall.
