    Awesome little detector

I recently returned from a trip from Kansas to Colorado. My R4 worked flawlessly. Depending on the terrain, it picked up cops running radar anywhere from over a mile away to 3 and even up to 5 miles away. It’s the best radar detector I’ve ever owned. I just wish it was 100% true stealth. But other than that it’s awesome. And you just can’t beat it for the price. Escort should be ashamed of their radar detectors in comparison. I’ve purchased my last Escort radar detector. That company is a joke. I bought my R4 at Best Buy for just over $300 on sale a while back. I also use R4 companion and it integrates perfectly with the R4. It’s well worth the $10 for the app on iOS. I have this mounted above my visor with a visor mount i purchased from eBay so it’s also well hidden in my Mazda. Using the R4 with R4 companion and Waze is a trifecta of awesome counter-measures. I can’t say enough good things about the R4. Great job Uniden. I highly recommend this detector.

The best radar detector if you don't need arrows.

This radar/laser detector has the circuitry of the top of the line R8 & R9 models with the exception of the rear facing antenna for the direction arrows feature. The range is the best in class and it detects K band, X Band, Ka Band, and Laser speed measuring devices. There are many options and settings available for the enthusiast yet easy enough for the beginner willing to set it up properly for their locale. Extensive filtering is available to minimize false alerts as well as GPS and velocity based muting. Firmware updates and traffic camera database updates are free. At about half the price of an R8, the R4 is a great value. If it saves you from one speeding ticket, it has paid for itself.

I needed to step up to a modern radar detector (RD) to replace my still functioning but outdated (lacking frequency blocking ability) Beltronics Vector 955. Over the last 2 years of my due diligence, I physically tried out a Radenso DS1, the Uniden R7 and the R8. Each of the aforementioned options had their own pros and cons but at their price points at the time of testing, I could NOT justify keeping them over my old RD that basically did the same but was just much louder because it does not allow for frequency blocking on newer vehicles. At the price point I was able to acquire my Uniden R4Blk in 12/2024, I have not had a single reason (read: con) to question my informed purchase decision. I won't bore you with the specs, you know what they are (or should before buying it). As an experienced RD user for over 15+ years, this firmware updated, arrowless UR4 is as quiet as one can ever hope to use. In our extensive California, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon travels, the Ka band and laser notifications are THE only warnings that we need to heed. In our most recent 3k+ mile round trip through the aforementioned states in 06/25, this dialed in RD was on point throughout and blissfully quiet otherwise. The quiet part is where I find the most value. NO ONE wants a RD that is constantly chirping for unimportant warnings. It again accurately warned across blind turns, blind hills and on long, long straight aways. I specifically noted a 3+ mile Ka warning out on the desolate I-95N in NW Nevada. To any RD user, arrows should not matter (save $100+ by not having them). You should be so in tune with the RD warnings that are important for your route(s), that you instinctively check your speed (read: brake no matter your speed while simultaneously checking your actual speed limit). That is all a RD is supposed to do. It is a tool to give you a chance to check your speed before getting popped for speeding. I can and do give my unequivocal, road tested approval to this particular model for its accuracy, firmware update frequency, PRICE POINT and reliability. P.s. This UR4BLK unit was my specific target model due to the fact that the matte black construction absolutely keeps the glare down from every angle. A big improvement over my other RD that has a silver/chrome top side that at times can be "blinding." P.s.s. Combine this tool with the Waze app. and you can turn the odds of road travel without speeding violations to your favor. ALWAYS STAY VISUALLY AWARE! Uniden radar detectors are some of the best of the best on the market! I have had the R7 for a while now and decided to try out the R4. It's a superior detector with one deal breaker issue! You can hardly hear it when it alerts! With the volume on 8, that's as high as it will go, and it's as loud as the R7 volume set on #3! Why on earth would they do that to such a well-known, superior radar detector? If i would have known that it isn't very loud at all, i never would have paid almost $400 bucks for it! But it just so happens that i have an Escort Amplified External Speaker that i used on my 8500x50. Hooked it up to the R4 and you can definitely hear it now! It's extremely loud & crystal clear for when your cruising around with the bass bumping! Other than having to use an external speaker, the R4 is everybit as good as my Radenso DS1. My DS1 has such a long detection range, you'll think something is wrong with it when it starts alerting, and it takes several miles to locate the law! The R4 has the same range and so far i love it!

I purchased Uniden R3 then after doing some research R4 is way superior, I used to have a radar back in a days Escort was top of the line then, Like the previous review says,I was about to purchase an R8 on ebay refurbished for $500 that $200 more just to have arrows . R4 has a long range ,downloaded R4 Companion app for an iPhone it will cost you $10 . But its worth it I don't have to mute my radar from my unit anymore. Ive been using it for 2 days now,I haven't seen cop yet. a radar isn't to drive recklessly ,it actually alerts you ,it actually reminds you to slow down. I am about to to do my hardwire in my corvette C8 Convertible. I need to but a bend mount kit that costs around $200

It's better than the Uniden R3, I can't even count how many times it's helped me out. Sometimes it picks up a signal 3-5 miles away from me in a straight line. Once a cop was standing on the highway at night without headlights or any lights, this thing let me know about an ambush

The best radar detector for the price in my opinion. This is an upgrade from my R3 and it has exceeded expectations. So many features and user settings that I'm still learning about, but I'm sure any experienced person in the field of radar detection would easily know what to do with them. Its still easy enough to use for someone like me. Purchase this and you won't be disappointed, or ticketed.

Love this thing. Go through the settings and pick the write right setting for each mode. It may seem like it will go off all the time but thats either bc your filters arent right or it just picks up everything. And even if it does pick up everything it has an automute so it knows where the false alarms are if you constantly go past it.

I had the r3 for a week and i could still hear the beeping even though i returned it, that's how much it used to beep over nothing. I got the R4, it's quit, didn't drive me insane over nothing, while it's not acop detector, duh. It actually works great in the moment, with highway radar, you can see 12 before the beeping which is great.

I initially purchased the R3 unit and installed it my wife's car which gave me the perfect excuse to buy the R4 unit. Alerts remind me to watch my speed and of course, alerts me to be scanned which has saved me a lot of money!!!

Detectors have improved so much since I last owned one 29 years ago. This R4 does not make noise often. In my neighborhood I will get a beep followed by “memory”. Then it stops. I’m loving this detector.
