The Apple USB SuperDrive is a sleek and reliable external optical drive that seamlessly integrates with Macs lacking built-in CD/DVD drives. Its compact design makes it highly portable, perfect for users who need to read or burn CDs and DVDs on the go. Setup is effortless—simply plug it into a USB port and start using it with macOS’s built-in software. While its compatibility is limited to Macs and doesn’t support Blu-ray discs, its performance in reading and writing CDs and DVDs is excellent. If you’re looking for a reliable and stylish external drive to complement your Mac setup, the Apple USB SuperDrive is a solid choice.

I bought this drive after purchasing and returning the LG model SP80NB60. The Apple drive costs twice as much but it works much better. It has a slot rather than a tray (which can sometimes feel flimsy.) It seems to be heavy duty, made of metal rather than plastic. At this point I haven' used it to burn any cds or dvds. I have only used it rip live cd-rs to my computer. The drive was quiet, ejected nicely and worked quickly enough. It also fits nicely on the base / stand of my iMac. I give it 5 stars even though I haven't burned any discs yet.

For almost two decades now I have been lucky enough to be able purchase Apple products. Of those products I have had a MacBook Air, two MacBook Pros and three iMac machines. Until the last decade these have all had the Mac SuperDrive. As time goes by the need for the SuperDrive has been all but eliminated. Because of the use of USB Flash Drives and The Cloud just to name a few reasons. With that being said I too use the iCloud, USB Flash Drives and External Hard Drive's. Now why I feel there's a place for Apples USB SuperDrive. I for one still feel the need to make hard copies of certain Data. For starters important documents, backup copies of music that I have purchased. Backup Copies movies that I have purchased. Priceless pictures that can't be replaced. While several companies are manufacturing external optical drives. None of these even come close to the quality of the Apple USB SuperDrive. The drive itself is designed by Apple. It is built with the same quality materials that Apple builds all of their products with. It is built of aluminum. The unit looks outstanding with my MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and the iMac. Most importantly the Apple USB SuperDrive is quiet and works flawlessly! I do hope this helps.
