Customers commend the ROG Zephyrus G14's impressive performance, vibrant screen, and surprisingly long battery life, making it ideal for both work and play. Its compact size and light weight contribute to excellent portability. However, some users note that the device can become quite warm and the fans noisy during demanding tasks.

Overall, this is a compact, powerful laptop with nice designs. The latest 7940HS w/ 780M is efficient with decent iGPU performance. The AMD AI engine enables some video processing during virtual conferences which I did not found on a unit w/ 13th-Gen Intel H processors. Screen is good but the 4070 is limited by the 128-bit bandwidth graphic memory bandwidth, thank you nVidia. One DDR5 SO-DIMM is available on the motherboard and is upgradable. This unit I received has a WD PC SN560 PCIe 4.0 OEM SSD with latest firmware as shown on WD Dashboard. As shown in the attachments, there are consistent WHEA-logger event 17 errors, tracked down to the NVMe controller and SSD. Plus, this unit would reboot by itself under sleep with loss of unsaved data, and power errors in the Windows Event Viewer. My guess is that this SSD may have a firmware issue with its power state. I swapped with a WD SN850X with no errors at all, but I already ordered another unit and decided to return this one before finding this issue with the SSD. If you have this error popping up in the Event Viewer, try with a different NVMe SSD and it might solve the problem. This could not be diagnosed by the MyAsus portal as of July 18, 2023 when I decided to return.

First things first I had the 6700s and 6800s 2022 models so I want to contrast this with those as a LOT of things changed even though they use the same chassis. The bad first followed up with all the info you want to know after in sections: Last year (2022) it took me 8 units to find one that didnt have a QC issue with screen bleed, popping speakers, or a bad fan bearing it was ALWAYS something. If you made it past the hardware lottery it was on release riddled with massive bugs and driver issues endlessly to the point I personally gave up and sold it in favor of an M16 instead. That said I had high hopes being the second model year for this chassis that it would prove to be solid. Right out of the box during windows setup my fans turned on and boom the gpu fan (right side) was touching the shroud on my unit and not spinning well sounding like a chainsaw. I thought you gotta be kidding me right. So I took my tool kit and opened it to see if something was in there and it was not. I bent the fan shroud a bit and it all but resolved the fan issue but when resting your hands on the keyboard deck it still happened -__-. I wanted to put this first as QC is still a MAJOR issue this year and its the biggest issue as everything else is great it's easy to get blinded by how perfect this laptop is besides any issues. ------------------------------------------------- Ok so this year the entire ram is baked on the motherboard which is AWESOME so it has an open SODIMM slot to add your choice of ram if you like and makes things much easier then years past and props for this to asus. The old mediatek wifi card from last year that was the worst thing ever is now gone in favor of intel and its rock solid this time around. Screen bleed is all but non existent on 4 of these ive had which is a welcome change and of course the top tier 4090 model has a MINI LED screen which is absolutely beautiful but at over $3k its a hard squeeze. Battery Life- This is where the G14 has always shined and its no different this go around. There was some other spotty reviews around YouTube but they must have had review samples. Real life this thing is getting 10-12 hours battery using half screen brightness surfing the internet and watching YouTube at 30 volume. Idle power draw you can get down to 5 watts! If you used everything at minimum im sure you can eke out 13-14 hours of use which is an absolute feat in a windows machine. It's exactly on par with the late 2022 models which is all you can ask for when it performs 30+% higher than those at the same time. Absolutely amazing. The 4090 model can eek out over 17k on time spy scores where as the lesser models trickle down and this specific review is on the 4070 which I routinely score low 12k on time spy with. Nvidia did us dirty this year and voltage limited the 4050, 60 and 70 units on purpose to not cross contaminate the performance on xyz laptops in comparison to prevent problems with their marketing. This part sucks because for some reason the 4070 only has 8GB of VRAM same as the 4060 and this is just BARELY enough to get some decent QHD gaming in and not even on max textures because its just not enough. Thermals were a massive problem on the 2022 model but somehow they produced some black magic wizardry this year and have really really cut back on thermals it's actually almost breaking the laws of physics lol. I kid you not this is the coolest running 14" laptop ive had and that goes with the new MSI stealth 14 this year, last 2 years of G14, MacBook Pro M1 Max and m2 max models among others. The one thing they all have in common is massive heat. This go around I have no idea how they achieved it but even under heaven benchmark its not hitting thermal throttling. CPU does hit above 90c and GPU mid 80 but it's not pegging the thermal limits like the 2022 model did. Under normal use and gaming its literally 15-20c lower then last year which is insane in this form factor. Temps considered this years does get a little louder on the fan side of things but this is very easily controlled in armoury crate software or different performance modes or there is a few 3rd party software like G-Helper which is godsend for anti bloat users that dont like armory crate due to fluff and background tasks running. During full fan speed CPU and GPU at 100% max this can hit 60db which is LOUD for a laptop but still less than its brother the M16 this year with its triple-fan design. Something to note the current (as of may 15th 2023) game ready drivers from Nvidia (531.79) are bad on this model and limits the GPU to 80w for some reason. The fix is installing the driver directly from asus support site so be sure to check which driver you are using you may be missing a good 10% performance on the table when in game. All things considered its much like last year where if you do well passing your own QC checks this is an absolutely amazing gaming laptop that can game, edit video, and actually beat anything in battery life currently out so far in 2023 making it the perfect package. If it wasn't for the QC issues I would have given this an easy 5 star rating.

This is my 2nd ROG Zephyrus. My first is a 2020 model that served me well. I added 16gb or ram upon arrival and this will handle anything I throw at it so far. I use mostly for work very light gaming but I love the size and power of this machine.
