Excellent brightness and color range. I use it to watch movies and youtube with great results. It's not a dedicated gaming monitor but I've found it acceptable in this capacity as well. For productivity, it is great for spreadsheets and software development. I use split screen of documentation on one side and IDE on the other.

I am a software developer and photographer who has used VA panels for years (specifically high-end AMVA+), so I thought I knew what to expect regarding viewing angles and contrast. Unfortunately, this Samsung ViewFinity S7 (S70D) exhibits the worst traits of cheap VA panel technology. I ended up returning it. Here is the breakdown: The Good: If you sit dead-center, exactly 3 feet away, and never move your head, the 4K resolution is sharp and videos look colorful. If you just want a budget monitor to watch YouTube or movies in a dark room, this is a decent value for the price ($220 on sale). The Bad (Dealbreakers for Productivity): - Severe Black Smearing: This is the main reason I returned it. When scrolling through text (black font on white background or vice versa), the text leaves a visible trail/ghost behind it. On Ubuntu, these artifacts actually appeared green! It creates a "motion blur" effect that causes immediate eye strain. - Terrible Viewing Angles: The "Gamma Shift" is aggressive. If you look at the top of the screen, the bottom third "glows" and colors wash out. You have to stay perfectly still to get a uniform image. - Black Crush: While blacks are deep, they crush all detail. Dark grey areas just look like black ink; you lose all texture in dark photos or movie scenes. - Broken DDC/CI: The monitor does not support software brightness control. If you use a Mac or PC apps to control volume/brightness via keyboard, it will not work with this monitor. Verdict: Do not buy this if you work with text, code, or do any design work. The ghosting/smearing during scrolling makes it unusable for office work. Only buy this if you need a very cheap, stationary display strictly for media consumption.
