Wow - this machine is a workhorse. Let me preface this with the fact that I am a healthcare professional who is also back to school for higher education and I also work from home some days, requiring a lot of printing. Sure - I have a Black an White laser printer for the bulk of my print jobs, but there are just times when a color is what you need. With my schoolwork containing lots of vivid, colorful diagrams, I wanted something that I could do lots of printing without spending lots of cash on consumables down the road. Alas, comes Canon GX5020. This thing is stupid easy to setup. When you setup the printer, there's a poster in the box that asks you to scan the QR code from your phone OR you can use your laptop/desktop to set it up. I opted for my computer just because it was easier to see this way. When I tell you, my computer was "talking" to the printer before it was even setup to the network, it was crazy. It walked me step by step, open the cover, remove this packing tape, fill with ink, etc. It was unreal at how easy it was. I have never seen such an easy to set up printer. Next, this thing is pretty darn quiet. I did not time my times, I am not that technical but I will say it's faster than a majority of inkjet printers on the market today. This thing is strictly a printer. Not sure why Best Buy lists is as an All In One, but it's just a printer. So get that out the window - and THIS IS NOT A PHOTO PRINTER. More on that later. This printer uses 100 percent PIGMENT ink. This is a good thing. This means the prints are more resilient to moisture, they look sharper and the prints last longer compared to dye based inkjet printers and aren't as prone to fading. Win Win! Prior to this printer, I had one of the notorious "EcoTank" family of printers. After just 22ish months, the printheads failed on it. Fortunately, I had a protection plan. The former printer being a major headache, required multiple cleanings and still never totally got it right. This printer has an AMAZING "first page out" with my first page out in under 7 seconds from clicking "print" to a finished document. Before I could get out my chair, the pages were already rolling. It's very fast, and when printing a multi page document, as it's printing the current page it's already "feeding" the next sheet behind it, so it's nearly continuous printing. The duplex feature is crazy fast, but if you print something with a lot of ink on one side the printer seems to be smart enough to allow for a few more seconds for the ink to dry before sucking the document back in to print the other side! Wow - smart! In terms of print quality, this machine is not made for photo printing. If you are printing DOCUMENTS - that's the key, it's awesome. Even if you have some graphics mixed in, its good. However, even at normal mode and best mode, there is minor, but not major, print banding that's evident. Even after an initial nozzle check and cleaning, which revealed the heads were not clogged, the banding didn't go away. The banding was more evident in dark, deep colors. The lighter colors resulted in no banding. I am no expert, but I suspect it's just the way this printer was made? Nonetheless, you can connect via ethernet or Wi-Fi, but you have to enable ethernet connectivity in the print menu to use it if you choose to do so. There is a rear paper tray, which handled media like mailer envelopes with ease. This way, I didn't have to take all my plain letter paper out the main tray to print an envelope. While you can print on photo paper, the colors are somewhat muted and not vivid and while it will do the job, it's evident that printing photos are not the strength of this machine. That's okay, because that's not why I bought this machine. The ink refill mechanism is easy to use. The bottles are virtually drip free, and the grooves make sure the bottles are stable when refilling and they stop at the top of the chamber. The tanks hold a very very generous amount of ink. Important notes of this machine include the fact that there is a "Maintenance Cartridge" in the rear left side of the machine. It's more common that super tank printers are coming with a form of "maintenance cartridge" that has an ink absorber inside to contain wasted ink from functions like nozzle cleanings, and other functions. One thing I like is that this machine makes is extremely clear on the "life" of the maintenance cartridge. I will say, after initial setup, which takes about 8 minutes of priming, it will consume around 30 percent of the maintenance cartridge life. Fortunately, I don't estimate this to require very frequent replacement, although I do believe if it was full, the printer would stop operation. At present, at just under twenty bucks, the part is available on Canon's Website. Another con is that there is a small LCD display on the front left of the printer. It contains just enough screen real estate to tell you what's happening, etc. However, THERE IS NO BACKLIGHT. I mean this is not a deal breaker, but it would be nice to see what's on the screen if the lighting in the room was not the best. This printer comes with a generous 3 year or 30,000 page warranty, whichever happens first from the manufacturer. I didn't read specifics but having a prior positive experience with Canon I expect that should something do go wrong, Canon will stand by your side. Whether I printed charts, graphs, PowerPoint Slides or just plain emails or text documents, this printer mowed all of my print jobs with ease. "EcoMode" which is slightly lighter in ink saturation was even faster. Compared to my former EcoTank competing printer, in many aspects the print quality is superior with exception to Photo Printing. While I have a dedicated laser printer, I can see myself making this my next go to printer. All in all, I am pleased but make note of its nuances and the deduction of a star is a result of the print banding. Aside from this nuance, I am so far content and hope I don't experience printhead issues like I did with the former EcoTank printer. Sure, it's a bit more of a significant upfront cost, but the dramatically lower cost of ink down the line will surely be a nice surprise to your wallet.
