Going from a 55 inch tv to an 85 inch tv is almost like going from an 80s tube tv to a flat screen! Though the tv I had was nice, it’s just a completely different experience with the mini led compared to a 10 year old lcd. The picture you get with this tv even non hd stuff is just stunning and full 4k stuff almost seems 3d sometimes! Unboxing and setup of this monster is definitely a two or even a three man job, especially if you’re hanging it on a wall. Due to the fact you basically have a built in surround sound system with subwoofers the tv is on the heavier and thicker side. Though the speakers do make it a little thicker it looks extremely nice on the sides given the color and angle of the speakers. In terms of sound this is by far the best tv I’ve ever heard. You have many different sound profiles and even AI processing to give you that theater experience. If you’re good with setting up your own EQ settings you can even do that, a first for a tv I’ve ever seen. Though the sound is good, it still doesn’t replace a nice sound bar or true receiver and independent speakers but that’s not something anyone would expect. But, if you only have the budget for a tv, the built in surround sound is by far the best theater experience I’ve ever had from a tv. If you are connecting a surround sound or anything else, you get 3 HDMI ports, 2 USB A ports, digital optical, Ethernet and a display port/USB-C on the side. You also have WiFi 6e and Bluetooth 5.3,so you don’t have to worry about loosing signal as much. My only complaint would be I wish it had one more HDMI port specifically on the side. In terms of the most important aspect, the picture quality, this thing produces an incredibly beautiful picture. From extremely deep blacks to colors that are life like and vibrant. Hooking up my PS5 and playing Call of Duty, it was an experience like I’ve never had before, from the colors to the fluidity that 165hz and 480 motion rate delivers to make it smooth. The tv also automatically switches to game mode when the PS5 is turned on which is really awesome. This is my first experience with the Hisense brand and to say I’m impressed with everything about this tv would be an understatement. From the absolutely beautiful picture it produces, the best I’ve ever heard sound from a tv, to something as simple as the high quality feeling lighted remote. It’s my first Hisense product but far from my last. If you’re in the market for a tv that can do it all, Hisense has you covered!

I’m extremely happy with this TV. It looks fantastic and ticks the boxes on just about every feature you’d want. My only disappointment is that it only has 3 HDMI ports, but besides that I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a high-end TV on a budget. The 85” version of this TV came to me on a pallet. It’s quite heavy and definitely requires 2 strong people to handle it. The box includes the TV, stand, remote, power cable, and some manuals. The TV in total weighs about 150 pounds, though the stand makes up about a third of the total weight, so if you are mounting it to the wall like I did it “only” weighs about 100 pounds. Though I did not attach the stand, it feels like it’s more than up to the task of holding the TV up with a very hefty metal base plate that sits in the center of the TV, so if your TV stand is not as wide as the TV it can still sit on it. It’s relatively thin for such a large TV at 1.9”. The bezels overall are pretty thin and only the bottom bezel is really visible. The power cable connects on the right side of the TV and the inputs are on the left side. The remote is nice - maybe just a little too large for my taste, but I’d rather have that than one that is too small. It has the standard layout of app buttons, including one that can be customized to whatever app or input you want. The panel is a mini-LED backlit VA LCD. It supports 4K with up to a 165Hz refresh rate and VRR, which makes it a great choice for gaming. All the major HDR formats are supported, including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG. Inputs are one area I was mildly disappointed. There are only 3 HDMI ports and for a TV of this class I’d expect to see 4 minimum, if not 5. At least all 3 of the ports that are there support the full 4K 165Hz, but with one of them being used for eARC effectively you’re only left with 2 usable HDMI ports. There are ways to solve this with HDMI switchers or an external receiver, but it’s still disappointing to see. Other ports include a USB 2.0, USB 3.0, optical out, and an ATSC 3.0 antenna. There’s also a USB-C port that I didn’t see mentioned on any of the specs that supports a DisplayPort input and I was able to connect my laptop at the full 4K 165Hz to it. The USB-C port only supports a 5V 2A charging max though, so any device you do connect to it will likely need to be powered separately. The TV comes with Google TV as its OS, which is my preferred smart TV platform. The setup process is very easy, especially if you have the Google Home app, though I’d recommend reading through each of the screens before clicking ‘I agree’ because you don’t have to agree to everything and can claw back a little privacy. The Google TV OS has apps for all the major streaming services and there’s nothing I regularly use that’s missing. Anyone who has used any of the recent Chromecasts should feel right at home here. I am probably a bit biased as I’m so familiar with it, but for navigating apps and settings there isn’t anything else I’d prefer. In addition to Google Cast, it also supports Apple AirPlay as well. I went through a variety of content on this TV, including shows, movies, sports and games. I generally turn off as much of the extra processing as I can, so I didn’t make use of any of the AI upscaling or motion clarity settings, so it’s likely I’m missing out on some improvements to lower resolution content like TV broadcasts, but in general I was happy with everything I saw. Watching basketball on YouTube TV is where I could start to see the size of the TV being somewhat of a detriment to the image, but it was not something I found to be distracting unless I was looking for it. Movies and shows, especially the ones that support 4K and HDR, really shine on this TV. Hisense advertises this series and ‘up to’ 5000 nits and 5000 local dimming zones, but the actual number depends on the size of the screen. I found one place that mentioned 3168 dimming zones for the 85” model, but I’m not sure if that is accurate. I can confirm the TV can get insanely bright. The mini-LED dimming is excellent and I did not notice any halo effects except around a couple of spinning wheel loading icons. Using the theater, filmmaker, and gaming picture modes, colors appeared to be vibrant without being overly saturated, though I did bring down the default color setting on the gaming picture mode a little bit to align it better with the filmmaker mode. I have this setup in my basement, so I have a lot of control over the lighting. With the lights and watching the TV head on I did not notice any distracting reflections, though watching from the side they become a lot more noticeable. This being a VA panel you are going to be getting a worse experience watching it off axis anyway. Uniformity appears to be good on my unit and I didn’t see any noticeable dirty screen effect. For gaming, I use a Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, and a PC. It supports all of the features of my Xbox Series X, including Dolby Vision Gaming, and I was also able to connect my PC at 4K 165Hz HDR with VRR enabled. The game bar has some useful features similar to what I’ve seen on my TCL with readouts for the resolution, framerate, etc. I don’t have anything to measure the latency, but I found gaming on this display to be very responsive. The built-in speakers on this TV are actually pretty impressive and there’s even a built-in subwoofer and 2 upward firing speakers for Dolby Atmos. It’s enough to challenge a lot of inexpensive soundbars, though I suspect anyone looking at this type of TV will be pairing it with a receiver or higher-end soundbar. But if this is going in a space that can’t accommodate a lot of external components it’s definitely a plus. Overall I think this is an excellent TV that offers all the high-end features you could ask for. As a home theater TV it’s nearly perfect. As mentioned before, I’m a bit disappointed with the lack of HDMI ports, but that’s an issue that’s easy to work around.

If you are looking to upgrade your TV/home theater setup and are looking for the best value with the best features your hard earned money can buy without over paying for one of the longer standing tv brands, then stop right here and buy one of hisense 2025 new and highly regarded U8 model especially in the glorious size of 85 inches! I’ve owned Hisense TVs for about 7-8 years now since they were just coming up and Ive always recommended them to friends or family because they care about making a name for themselves with bringing amazing value and amazing tech to their TVs. This years U8 is no exception as this 85 inch is amazing in almost every single way. First I’ll start with the processing speed when simply switching between inputs to starting an app. Even the system settings are so responsive and quick. My wife was even amazed and commented on how fast everything loads. That might not be a big deal to yall but to us every second counts lol. Google tv is great if you have a fast processor. Of course picture quality is important and you know you’re getting great colors, brightness and contrast and this tv destroys any other tv i have owned that is mini led with a qled panel. It’s simply beautiful the colors are super vivid but not overly saturated, it’s really close to oled in my techy opinion. Add to it the super high dimming zones and you really do get near an oled display(almost). Motion is smooth with up to a 165hz refresh rate. Brightness is high but not overwhelming like other high nit panels, it’s hard to explain but it’s perfect brightness at max levels. I think it’s not overly bright because it’s such a large tv. No real blooming unless you turn off local dimming and while it’s not perfect(it’s close to perfect) and I love it. Speakers? Well I would not call them speakers, I’d call them magic. Seriously the sound that this tv outputs is ridiculous(in A good way). The clarity and volume is amazing even the built in “subs” produce nice and deep bass which does add to the home theater sound. This is great if you don’t have a soundbar or surround sound. I use the tv speakers at night and my surround sound during the day and I’m happy with both. My wife, son, daughter, and best friend all thought I was usually my surround sound for a second. Hisense really did it with this tv, but I know that in order to have such big sound they had to make the tv way thicker than a standard tv. So the tv is deep big and very heavy but I’ll take that over a thin and light tv with not so great picture and sound. Once you get this big boy set up you won’t regret it.the tv stand is very sturdy and semi easy to put together but smart especially since the made the stand a center mount and not 2 separate legs. Also If you are a gamer this tv will satisfy all your gaming needs with its high refresh rate, Low input lag and amd freesync pro plus the game bar setting lets you customize many aspects to suit your style of play. You can even change the theme of the game at settings from PlayStation,Xbox or even switch style and that is just the cherry on top. I appreciate the big and little things brands do to please their customers. Remote control is very nice, sleek and backlit with all the needed shortcuts. WiFi is strong with no connection issues. The tv has 3 hdmi 4k@165 and a sound mounted mini!? Display port/type C charging port. A nice add on but I don’t foresee myself using it much. I did try PC gaming and it’s great but I have a QD oled 32 inch so I’ll stick to that. But you can run a high end PC with this tv. Again if you are looking for a tv that has almost everything an oled has but at a very reasonable cost. Get you a Hisense U8 and if you want to save a little more money go for the U7 then. Truly these tvs are amazing and you won’t be disappointed I promise.
