What is the difference between Echo and the Amazon Dot? Does one do more or less? Can't I just buy the Dot and spend 3x less the money? null

The Echo and the Echo Dot are identical outside of the Echo having a built in 360 speaker so it is already a self contained unit to play music,etc. The DOT is perfect if you already have a sound system and can Bluetooth connect to that system.

I have Amazon Echo Alexa and 3 Amazon Echo Dots. The only difference I have found is two things. The Alexa is about 4 x bigger than the Dot and the Dot is exactly like Alexa alone unless you want to listen to better sounding music. Dot doesn't have near as many speakers in it as the Alexa. For the Dot in my kitchen I connected a Bluetooth speaker to it and it is just as good as the bigger Alexa in my great room. You can also hook Dot up directly to a regular speaker for the same effect.

The DOT has limited speaker capacity. It is more designed to be a hub rather than a speaker. If you have a nice Bluetooth speaker or a sound system to connect the dot to you are good to go. The dot is basically the brains of the unit. Hope this helps.
