I would recommend a sound bar over a dot. The best dot with the best sound is the 3rd generation echo dot.

Hello,
You would need a Fire TV Stick of some sort to pair with the Echo device in order to use it for a speaker. Unfortunately, you would only get sound for the media playing from the Fire TV stick, it will not pair if you are using a cable box or apps built into the smart TV. Also, an Echo Dot would not be the loudest. That is meant for a smaller space. An Echo or Echo Studio would be a better recommendation for a speaker for a Home Theater. You can also pair 2 of those and do a 2.0 or 2.1 set up so you have a Left and Right, or you can add the Echo Sub for the 2.1.  Hope that info helps.
