It works with your free subscription to Pandora, You Tube or Spotify. Just ask Alexa to play music on one of these music services.

It will play music without a subscription from free radio stations. We have Sirius xm and amazon prime, so it will play music from these as well if you ask her to. However, if you want to listen to your own musiclist, the music must be on Your amazon music library. It wont play music from my Itunes or google music libraries.

You can link it to either your Pandora or Amazon Prime Accout. You will find this in your Alexa app to set up.

The music is free I just bought two more as gifts for a friends 
Teenage kids. It will play any song any singer or band any type of music. I have asked mine / Alexa play Christmas music / Alexa play soft rock or / Alexa play country music it will play anything you want and yes it is free makes a great gift for teenagers and adults alike. I have several to play music in each room and to turn on my lights by command no more tripping over or into things trying to find the light. I just say Alexa turn on the living room light and it turns on you will need a plug for Alexa unless you buy the smart lights they have what they call a built in hub to operate the light to use they are L. E. D. And you can get them to change colors I have the color ones I like the purple it really softens the brightness at night have fun with it.

If you have Amazon Prime you will have access to some free music. You can also link your Pandora account and/or iheart radio account to stream music for free.

I typically use the command, “Echo play “whatever” station on Pandora” to listen to music. I think if you have an Amazon music library you can command Echo to play music from that list as well. Hope this helps you out some! :)

It will play MANY types of music for free. However, if you need to have unlimited access to most existing music out in the digital realm, you may have to spend some money on a music streaming subscription service. There are vids on YouTube that nicely compares the top music streaming services. Depending on what you want and how you want to experience / access your music, that is what is probably going to decide which service you sign up for, if any at all.

I linked it to my Iheart radio account for music. If you have music downloaded on a smart phone your can play it via bluetooth linkage. If you ask Alexa she will help you by telling you what to do.

You can stream through other services besides Amazone music. Some are free with commercials and others require subscriptions. The free one work ok, but of course they work best with Amazone upgraded Unlimited Music Service that's not included with you paid Amazon subscription.
