Don't take the Ipod nano they suck you must have headphone to make sound and the can't take pic and they shatter so easly. Yea I have one I fell half an inch and it shatted don't get it.

You will not be able to keep the music that your friend loaded, as it is tied to their account. If you want to be the owner and have your profile on it, you have to do a factory reset, wipe it all out, and go through the set-up process. You can then add your account, details, etc.

You may want to check on nano support. I have an iPod nano. I have recently purchased more songs (which I load up into myy iTunes account on my iMac). I just tried to synch the nano and the songs did not transfer over to the nano. I have read that Apple will not support the nano (or shuffle) any longer. I wasn't sure what that meant, but it seems I may not be able to synch and add new songs to the nano. I tried twice clicking on the SYNCH button and the songs are not on my nano.It was easy to synch before. I may break down and buy the IPod touch.....It's too bad since I prefer the small nano for exercising. There is no need to hook up to WiFi to hear my songs. I like the stand alone feature of the nano (and teh shuffle before that).
