If you only want to perform a "dry pass," you can. Just don't hold the trigger. The trigger releases the cleaning solution.

I'd advise having a robot vacuum or another lighter vacuum to go over home first to capture bulk dry mess (daily). I use this strictly when I need to wash the floors and carpets (at least weekly).

The CrossWave Cordless Max doesn’t shampoo carpets like a carpet cleaner/steamer. The unit refreshes your area rugs. The unit can be switched between two operational modes: hard floors and area rugs, which basically determines the amount of cleaning solution that is sprayed onto the roller brush during operation.

There is a button that you engage to spray the roller with water so you can vacuum without getting the carpet wet.

Hi Sandy - the CrossWave isn't intended to be used as a dry vacuum. It's for vacuuming and washing your hard floors and area rugs at the same time.

There is a separate button to spray cleaner. It just vacuums if you don’t press the spray button. The spray has two settings - floor vs carpet.
