You are able to check the battery status within the APP and also set-up low battery notifications as well. You are able to add Blink cameras to your existing Blink System at any time, You can have up to 10 Blink devices per sync module as long as they are all within the 100ft operating range of the sync module in any direction. The cameras on the sync module can be in any combination.

Answer

You get a notification in the App, but only when the battery is low and the camera no longer works. There is no advanced warning. Hence, you need to be prepared to either change batteries on some schedule, even if they are still good, go without a camera for some time, or setup a redundant camera.

You are alerted when the battery is low. You can put up the tent blink cameras on one sync module

Yes they are expandable.

Yes, you'll receive a notification on your phone. Also I let my battery die before I replaced it. Took about a week before it stopped working, but the functions were inhibited. I'm assuming this is to conserve energy until the battery is replaced.
