• NO. I had someone do that to one of my ember mugs and the microwave shot sparks and burned the cup.

• NO! It's metal, and there should be no need to put it anywhere but on the charging coaster to recharge it. It keeps the liquid at the temperature you set it at for over an hour without recharging.
