    • Answer For anyone else confused as to whether it's 8,000 BTU or 12,000 BTU, here's an explanation I found; "Portable air conditioners were originally labeled with the same BTU rating system as window air conditioners and wall AC units, but in 2018 manufacturers realized this led to an inaccurate assessment of the unit's cooling capabilities. When an air conditioner is cooling a room, the unit's cooling mechanism ends up emitting some heat. Unlike a window or wall unit, a portable air conditioner sits entirely inside a room, and some of the emitted heat ends up dissipating into the very space it's trying to cool. This means the room isn't getting as cool as the old ASHRAE rating indicates. The new DOE rating is more accurate because it takes into account the heat emitted by the exhaust on the portable AC. While the ASHRAE rating gives the hard numbers of the BTU output, the DOE rating is more of a "real-feel" rating. This means you can be sure your AC unit is more accurately rated, which means better cooling and greater efficiency."

  • QuestionCan this be used for a dorm room without using the widow vent?

    Asked by CollegeDad2022.

    • Answer Hello, CollegeDad2022! In the Cool Mode the appliance must be placed close to a window or opening so that the warm exhaust air can be ducted outside. If this isn’t done, the hot air would be vented back into the room and the space wouldn’t become cooler since no heat is being removed. • QuestionDoes this use a lot of power where I would need to be concerned about blowing the breaker box?

    Asked by help.

    • Answer As long as the air conditioner is installed properly in a location that provides the electrical requirements, you shouldn’t need to worry about a breaker tripping. This is a 1050-Watt model that has a rating of 115 volts and 9 amps. The air conditioner should be plugged directly into a standard non-GFCI outlet and will need to be the only appliance connected to the circuit. • QuestionDoes the unit have an evaporation or condensation try gor the water that needs to be emptied every day? Where does the condensation water goes?

    Asked by MariaA.

    • Answer Good day, Mary! The Frigidaire FHPW122AC1 Portable Air Conditioner does not have a built-in condensation reservoir that requires daily emptying. Instead, it utilizes a continuous drainage system to manage the condensate. When operating in Dry mode, the unit collects moisture from the air, which must be drained to prevent overflow. To facilitate this, the air conditioner is equipped with a continuous drain outlet. Users can connect a garden hose (sold separately) to this outlet, directing the condensate to a suitable drain located lower than the unit to ensure proper drainage. In Cool or Auto mode, the unit is designed to evaporate the condensate internally. This process utilizes the heat extracted from the room to evaporate the moisture, which is then expelled through the exhaust hose along with the hot air. This design eliminates the need for manual drainage during these modes. During winter storage or when the unit is not in use for extended periods, it's advisable to remove any residual condensate. This can be done by placing a drip tray under the continuous drain outlet, unscrewing the drain cap, and allowing any remaining moisture to flow out. To ensure all condensate is removed, gently tilt the unit forward until no more water exits. In summary, the Frigidaire FHPW122AC1 Portable Air Conditioner efficiently manages condensate through evaporation in cooling modes and provides a continuous drainage option in dry mode, minimizing the need for daily maintenance. - Maico
