A:AnswerHi Milo- We are sorry to hear of this issue with the paint in your microwave. Minor chips to the coating on the microwave's interior cavity will not affect the product's performance. If the coating is actively flaking or paint is peeling anywhere inside the oven cavity (including under the turntable) discontinue the use of the microwave and replace it. The microwave is not repairable. The cavity coating in GE Appliances microwave ovens is selected to be safely used as a food-contact surface and meets GE Appliances' and applicable government requirements for such use. No lead or other toxic materials are added to the cavity coating material used in GE Appliances microwave ovens. The inadvertent ingestion of small amounts of peeling coating does not create a health risk. We suggest our GE® 2.0 Cu. Ft. Capacity Countertop Microwave Oven JES2051SNSS and GE® 1.6 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave Oven JES1656SRSS. We certainly appreciate your loyalty. Keep in touch! SUEatGEA
A:AnswerI'm not sure if there is a way to turn it off, but you can stop the platter inside from spinning by putting something underneath it to raise it up about a 1/2 inch so it will no longer sit on the mechanism that makes it turn. Just make sure that whatever you use does not contain any metal. Something like a small Tupperware type bowl or lid (the flatter the better) with a hole cut in the middle would probably work.
Oh course make sure that whatever you use is microwavable and will not melt.
A:AnswerHi - Thanks for choosing GE. The keypad is not backlit. We currently do not offer a countertop microwave with a backlit control panel. Keep in touch! SUE@GEA

A:AnswerHi fasttalker- We appreciate your loyalty! JES1656SRSS is intended for countertop use only and not compatible with a built-in trim kit. Also, built-in trim kits are not interchangeable. A trim kit consists of the trim frame, as well as an upper, lower, and rear duct that attaches to and encases the microwave inside the cabinet cut-out. It is important to only use the trim kit designed for that model. We suggest our GE Profile™ Series 2.2 Cu. Ft. Built-In Sensor Microwave Oven PEB7227SLSS. It is compatible with GE® Optional 27" Built-In Trim Kit JX7227SLSS. We encourage you to view the Quick Specs at the following link for details including cutout requirements: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=PEB7227SL_BL_R2_17.pdf - Keep in touch! A:AnswerHi - We are sorry to about this frustrating experience. It is not something we would expect to occur and glad to offer assistance. Microwaves need adequate air clearance on each side, the rear and the top to function properly. This allows good circulation for the intake and discharge air vents. We suggest at least 3" of clearance on both sides and the top and 1" clearance in the rear. Do not place near or over a heat source. Do not remove the feet of the microwave, as it can affect air circulation and make the microwave less stable. Do not place cookbooks, small appliances or other items on top of the microwave. These microwaves are intended for countertop use only. We do not recommend installing them in tight spaces, like a cabinet. For further assistance, we encourage you to contact GE Appliance Service at 1-800-432-2737 or conveniently schedule an appointment online: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/service/ - We hope this is helpful.
