Too much! Gen 1 uses Nest software and Google Home. Gen 2 only used Google Home. I think the nest software is better. Gen 1 is landscape and Gen 2 Portrait mode. Portrait may be better in that you can see boxes closer to the door. Gen 1 Nest software lets you set zones that you don't worry about outside those zones. Google Home does not but Gen 2 recognizes cars and pets and you can turn them off so as not to bug you each time a car goes by. Google Home does not allow you to capture part of the video that is not a recorded (on purpose, people, dogs, etc) event. If you wanted to capture work being done in your yard for future use, sorry. I guess you could re-record it using your cell phone.

The new version has intelligent alerts, Activity Zones and three hours of event history included without a subscription. It also has a taller field of view, and can store video on the device during Wi-Fi outages. Setup and controls for the new versions of Nest doorbells are found in the Home app, while the first version is in the Nest App. Find out more using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9259110
