The answer ended up being: Yamaha A780 receiver factory settings were not compatible. We had to enable ARC on the receiver, turn off the TV speakers, and then we were able to select Audio Output > ARC. Then everything worked well!

They said that the receiver (Yamaha A780 7.2 channel) is not compatible with this TV and Hisense refused to suggest a receiver that would work with this TV. I was advised to use an optical audio cable, which I do not have wired through my walls. Why doesn't this TV support ARC to a pretty standard receiver? Does ARC on this TV support surround sound speakers hooked up via an ARC receiver? Or does this TV's ARC only support soundbars?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Same issue with a 2021 Hisense a65,g and Yamaha v585. Tried all HDMI ports on the tv to the HDMI out on the Yam. Arc is enabled on Yam. Tv will not change audio source to arc. Optical cable out to Yam works
