Is this extension an "active" extension? null

I don't believe so - i.e. no electronics .. However from what I have read, since an "inactive" cable can extend a USB port or USB active extension cable by up to 3 meters and this cable isn't that long, it should work I used it to extend a 3 ft video camera USB cable and and have had no issues...

No. It is a USB 2.0-speed wire with no active extension electronics.
