Always check expiration dates upon purchase. If battery expiration is not over 6 months away, I would ask for an exchange. I once gave a retail drug store a very difficult time due to display of 11 packs of EXPIRED hearing aid batteries. Try to buy batteries from places that sell large quantities to get newer batteries.
Avoid hi end battery sales like Sharper Image, they often have fewer sales, and in general this is a Very Good Question!
