The white cloth filter pod fits into a plastic holder that was included with your Keurig box. You then snap the holder to the circular intake on the inside of the water reservoir. I would use it because it will help keep the inside of your coffee maker cleaner. Just make sure you change it per the directions!

In the instructions is shows how to put the filter into the filter spout and attach it to the water reservoir. You can press the two sides that say "press" on the dilter attachment and place the ocular bottom down on the vase of the filter attachment, then pop it back on until you hear a click, then just attached the base in the bottom of the water reservoir and voila! Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The filter pack is inserted in the tower-style holder, which is then inserted in the water tank itself. Snaps in right on top of the water inlet. It's highly recommended for taste, and to keep mineral and other deposits from forming in the water lines and machine internals, but can be removed if you choose.

This is an optional accessory and is not required in order to use the brewing system. We hope this information is helpful!
