Hello Sudsysue, Thank you for your question, that is a great question and extremely important one at that! The LG - 4.7 Cu. Ft. 8-Cycle Ultra-Large-Capacity High-Efficiency Top-Loading Washer, Model # WT4970CW, like all the other LG High-Efficiency models, comes with a caution not to wash or spin any item known to be waterproof or water-resistant even if the product care label on the item permits machine washing. In the owner's manual, it goes on to say that "failure to follow these instructions could result in bodily harm, severe damage to your laundry, your washer and/or property damage as a result of abnormal vibration of the washer." The reason for this being that all the High-Efficiency (HE) top-load washers use a lot less water and spin much faster than regular top-load washers so that they can extract more water from the laundry thereby reducing drying time. That is how they earned their name as High- Efficiency washers and it saves you more money! Waterproof and water-resistant clothes can resist the chances of unbalancing loads which leads to excessive vibrating, shaking and damage by the machine. Even though the sales associate pointed to another manufacturer's model that didn't have the label, she may have been pointing to a model that was not a High-Efficiency model, but you should know that that same company also has the same warning on their models! The answer for the warning may also vary according to the different manufacturers. Dave VanderWaal, director of LG's home appliance marketing, suggested that if you choose to wash water-resistant fabrics, then select a low spin mode, but also cautioned that even that does not guarantee a completely balanced load throughout the wash cycle and that doing it does not void the warranty. Most of the other manufacturers that do not have the label and say it's okay to wash waterproof and water-resistant also stress the importance of using a low spin cycle. So that is what is behind that warning label! Thanks for asking the question and I hope the answer helped!...IFV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has something to do with impermeable material blocking the drain holes during the spin cycle. These types of material impede the flow of water and air out of the drain holes. This causes a lot of things like load becoming off balance, material ripping or stretching, all resulting in less than desirable outcomes. I.e. three hour loads, machine breakdown, etc. These new machines spin way faster than old ones. Trust the warnings.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I wash my mattress pad on delicate and it was okay.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.HE washers can not balance out a load of laundry properly when waterproof items are in the machine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Waterproof setting is for items that could be damage by detergent and softeners… it just washes with little water without soaps that can damage these items
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I went to school in Harrison City. I purchased the LG Wave Force washer in January 2015. I washed a shower curtain and a mattress pad in it without any problems.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, it will not wash waterproof or water resistant items, not one! Had to send ours back. Strange issue we never thought we would encounter, like a TV that is missing channels.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have washed all of those items and nothing has happened. I love ny LG.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This model is not equipped with a waterproof setting and would be included in the list of units that have a disclaimer against putting waterproof items in there.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.waterproof items usually have a backing, either felt or cotton. Those items are not made to get completely soaked, just the top layer is waterproof to prevent liquids from penetrating through. In a washing machine there is the distinct possibility that the lining could separate from the waterproof layer,
