The default screen setting is what you are not happy with. There are several picture modes that you can toggle through. If the screen is too dark it is because it is in power saver. My TV was the same way. I changed to a different setting and I am completely happy now.

You can go into the settings on the TV to check if the Energy Saving feature, which can be turned off, is on. When set to auto, the TV sensor detects the ambient lighting and automatically adjusts the screen brightness. In the Picture Mode settings, there is a Backlight control that controls the level of screen brightness. The closer its value to 100 is, the brighter the screen...^IFV
