• Yes, it requires a modem (cable modem, DSL, etc) plugged into the WAN port to use. It is NOT a modem-router. I've not used it for gaming but it is highly scalable and can connect many clients at once without performance degredation.

• Hi. Yes, the Linksys WRT3200ACM should work for gaming. You will still need a modem for your internet since this is a dedicated router.
