I don't know if you figured it out yet but it doesn't auto connect the first time, you have to manually setup via blue tooth settings and then it should stay connected whenever you turn both devices on.

You have to pair the devices with Bluetooth.

It uses Bluetooth to communicate. First make sure the keyboard is charged and on. There is a Bluetooth pair button on the right hand side of the keyboard next to the power switch, then go to your iPad Bluetooth settings to pair. Hope this helps.
