No you can not it has a charging base
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The cord does not go directly into the unit. The chord fits into the charging base. It must be charged. The unit lasts a long time on a charge. This is not a unit designed to use every day. It is smaller and mainly for travel purposes. I love mine and would purchase again....but I do travel a lot.

Please try again later.No it won’t start heating up while plugged in but just charging it for about 10 minutes should give it enough charge to quickly straighten your hair. It comes with a base that you can run the cord into so I usually just straighten my hair and put it on the base. It stands up straight so it takes up way less room than my old straightener.
