Nope, you do not need to have the game tennis rackets. As long as you have any Nintendo switch controller you should be able to play. If you have the joy cons, you can even simulate the feeling of playing with a racket, which is pretty cool.

No you do not. My son plays without them. The rackets, steering wheel and all the other extras are just extras to make it seem more real but are not needed for any game.
