These new Maytag washers have a pull out tray for detergent and for the softener if you want to add oxi clean they recommend you add it before you put the clothes in.

Mich, Pour a measured amount of liquid fabric
softener into tray; always follow manufacturer’s
directions for correct amount of fabric softener
based on your load size. Close dispenser
drawer, then select Fabric Softener - On option.
Fabric Softener is added during rinse.

There is a small "drawer" right under the lid that is for softener. You just have to pull it out and then add your softerner in and close it up.

Inside the actual machine when you life up the hood theres a slide out tray for detergent and softener.

Pull out the soap/fabric softener dispenser located under the lid towards the back of washer. Once side is for detergent, the other side is for softener. If I were adding vinegar or bleach, I would put in bleach dispenser located front left under lid.
