“Could this stand be used without the wheels if I wanted to leave the TV stationary? I am worried about how high the unit is from floor to the top of the base and my ability to slide it under a piece of furniture.”

Yes you can keep the wheels off if you want it stationery, I keep the wheels for rearranging purposes. Depending on how high your ceiling is it should be fine with a 7 to 8 foot ceiling that's with wheels. Hope this helps you.
