It can be used without online as well. Some games do require to be online, but not the Nintendo switch itself.

it can be used for both online and within the system. If you want to play online its an additional membership and game dependent but not necessary overall

This system can do online play, but is designed as a stand online system. You can own it for years and never play online. I purchased it with two games and both play just fine without going online. Online will let you play with others on the internet. The system has a docking station that attaches to your tv for normal game machine play. Pull it out of the dock and you can take it anywhere and play on the built in lcd screen.

This plays games on or off line. You DO NOT have to be online to play. I love this console!

it can be used without being online. We play games all the time and have not set ours up for online play.
