the HD143X is not going to have a throw ratio you need. in fact most projectors will not. at that distance, you are going to see a really big screen image. Assuming you do not want to mount on the ceiling, more like 9-10 ft which would give you a 50" image? the better option, though more expensive, is manufactures like Optoma and others make short throw or ultra short throw projectors which can be as close as 2-3 feet and do an image as small as you indicated. Short throw projectors tend to cost more.

yes i have mine at 17 feet an it will scale down only thing i have found with this projector. at a distance further then 17 feet you can not scale screen up ..
