Dear Panasonic, here is the correct answer I just received by opening a ticket with Panasonic directly: If you wish to buy more bases and use them as expansion units, that is possible, but you will need to deregister the handsets from the extra bases and register them to the one you want to use, and when you plug in the other bases do not plug the phone line in, just the power cord. So on the handsets from the extra base unit, you will have to press MENU # 131 and deregister them. And then press MENU # 130 and register them on the other base unit.

HI! It is not possible to use a base as an extension. The base unit requires a telephone line connection. -M
