“silly question. it sounds like I can use these smart bulbs in regular lamps but I can't expect them to dim. right? and I can't find the manual for this kit online, so can these bulbs be controlled over bluetooth?”

You can use them in lamps and dim them, too. Use the Philips app, or connect to Alexa and ask her to dim them.
