• Donna I simply used the Velcro double sided tape suppled with the. Able box to mount it right on the back of the tv out of sight, no shelf, no unsightly cable box just a nice clean install where you only see the tv. Hope this helps.

• Yes, you would need a shelf/entertainment center or something else to put your cable box on, as this mount is just a TV mount.
