I bought 2 headsets. 1 worked, 1 did not. I later learned that each Xbox controller must have an Xbox Gold Live subscription in order to use the headset. Once I bought the 2nd subscription, the 2nd headset worked. Of course, I'm not sure if this is the cause for your issue, but thought I'd share my situation, just in case.
