You can let it float, it works just as advertised. The quality underwater isn't the best, however you can still hear the speaker prominently. The connection worked just fine with my water tests as long as it doesn't go too deep.

You are underwater. No speaker will be clear as sound travels through are different than water. Connectivity should have no bearing on the speaker floating or sitting on the table. It is best to wipe any electronic devise off after it gets wet.
