It is advisable to get heatsink for sustained performance. You can buy cheap heatsink on Amazon with many tutorials on YouTube. However it should work just fine without one too.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have this in my PS5 and I'd go with this even without a heatsink over the firecuda. The WD Black is more reliable, less prone to failure, the 2nd fastest overall gen 4 drive and it's less money since the gen 5 drives are coming. I'm buying 5 of them for 2 raid array 's in my 7900x build. Just waiting for derbauer's delidding kit but I also have the firecuda and did extensive testing on both drives and the WD Black won by about 22% faster reads & writes in real world conditions. Also with the ps5 you don't NEED a heatsink. Air circulates through the drive bay when it's closed but not when there is a heatsinked drive. They actually tend to run hotter long term because the heatsink sits in the vent which is the hottest area so it essentially gets heatsoaked very quickly and ends up keeping the drive warmer.
