A few ways to find out: #1 A way to find out is to look and see what size hard drive you have. 256Gig, 500Gig, 1T?? Then go to the HP website and see the various drives they list and there types. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04473757#AbT4 #2 The second way to make sure is to watch videos on YouTube on how to pen your laptop. Open the laptop (if you are confident) and see exactly the drive you have inside it. We opened my wife's laptop and it only takes M.2 SSD, but we opened my laptop and it takes both SATA 3.0 and M.2 SSD. We opened two older laptops and one of those HP laptops takes the SATA2.0 and an older SSD stick drive. We installed a new SATA 3.0 SSD from Best Buy and it worked as they tend to be backwards compatible. #3 CRUCIAL MEMORY has a free scanner on their website that should tell you what RAM memory it has and what kind of Hard Drives it can take. NOTE: You will have to open the laptop anyways to replace the drive. You will also need a way to mirror your old drive over to the new drive, so you might need additional hardware. The other option is to do a fresh install of an operating system on the new drive and install your old drive in an external case. You can then have access to your old files via USB.
